In the past few days there has been some interesting correspondence re how far
back one can puts the Camp/Campe/etc. roots in good old Essex. Rob Curtis
started it with his 2/2/99 input re John of 1505 (a.d., I assume). A 2/3 note
from Mary Clairmont in Canada has the Edward names OK, but the locations
weren't Hertford, Sussex or Hertford, Essex, but rather Hunsdon of Herts, a
place quite near Naezing. I'd like to enter the discussion at this point to
refer all Camp historians of Edward's line to two very knowledgeable and well
referenced publications. The first I read and copied some in the Connecticut
State Library, but it is also listed on your "Books and Pubs. for Sale" list.
It is Nell Jones Carter's, "Camp, Jones and Related Families." The first 4
pages of her book gives some fascinating history back to AD 902, authenticated
by a British historian. The second book is W.F.J. Boardman's "The Ancestry of
William Francis Joseph Boardman", but it requires the patience of Job to
follow because he has the most thorough job I've come across trying to sort
the early Connecticut Camps. He was of Edward's line, also.
Barbara, I'd like to request of you that somehow, with the Carter's
permission, the first four pages of the Camp roots be put on the Web Page so
all Camp researchers can be informed. If push comes to shove, I could type it
off and e-mail it, but I'd prefer that the Carter's approve. What do you
think? The current interest, especially in Edward's line, is great. Hope we
can keep it going. There are some errors in the Genealogy of Edward on the
website. I'll get some input to you soon -- probably after I do my taxes --
hopefully not from San Quentin!! Ciao', Morg Henika
