I seem to stick my foot in this Camp family more and more - but I am
happy to answer the question you raised about where the cemetery is -
I assume you are referring to the cemetery where the Rev. Samuel Camp
and his three wives are buried. It is in the town of Ridgebury, CT,
just west of Danbury - a little hard to find, but in good condition
when you finally get there. The cemetery in Erie is simply called "Erie
Cemetery" - it is quite lovely, beautifully landscaped.
How Mary Camp Hayes got to
Erie, PA is that her son Martin - according to what I have read, walked
to Erie from Simsbury to stake out some land, and later brought his parents
to Erie. It was in Erie that my gggrandfather, Samuel Camp Hayes, was
born.
Note to Barbara - now that I have the full Camp genealogy in front of me
a date for Mary Camp's birth in 1773 seems more logical than 1783. I'm
beginning to think the tombstone inscription is simply wrong for her, but
don't know how to go further with this. If you have some convincing
evidence
that Hannah Betts was her mother, and that the date of 1773 is correct,
I'd be happy to receive it. Happy Memorial Day to everyone - Doug Chaffey
