Reference the query of Judith Wills:
The spelling I have seen has been "Biddlecomb" and "Bedlecumb", though
I
expect it may have also been spelled "Biddlescomb" in some documents. I have
used the former spelling, though I expect it's dealers choice.
If you will read the will of James Tarpley, dated 22 July 1780, recorded 28
May 1781 (Brunswick Co., VA Will Book 2, page 167, you will note he names John
among his children (at this moment I can't recall or locate the source of
"Oldham" as the second given name). Interestingly, James Tarpley does not
mention in his will Lucy (married William Green), Mary (married John Camp) or
Nancy Ann (married Thomas Camp). What do we make of that?
Mary Brassieur Biddlecomb, widow of James Biddlecomb,Sr., married 2) Samuel
Peachey, as his second wife. I do not have the date, but, based on footnote
4, Margaret Macdonald's paper "Who Was Mary, Wife of James Tarpley, etc.",
it
appears to have been about 1692. Her will dated May 1713, was recorded 3
September 1713 at which time she was deceased (Richmond Co., VA , Wills and
Inventories 1709-1717, pages 151/2). Samuel Peachey's will was dated 29
January 1711 and recorded 4 June 1712 (Richmond Co., VA, Wills and Inventories
1709-1717, pages 83/87).
Finally, the article is in the "Virginia Genealogist", Volune 37, No. 1, Jan-
Mar, 1993. My copy was obtained from the Family History Center in Roswell,
GA. I presume it is availble at any FHC, though it may have be ordered from
Salt Lake City. Certainly available at the Virginia State Library, and many
other major genealogy research libraries.
