I'm looking for descendants of Joseph CAMP & his wife Hannah Perrington
Smith. Joseph CAMP was a son of Isaac Camp & Mary (Polly) Lacey; he was
born 12 Sep 1806 possibly in Bradford Co. PA or perhaps in NY; Joseph &
Hannah were married 31 Dec 1829 probably in Bradford Co. PA. I have not
yet been able to find any records 'proving' the location of his birth or
marriage; dates are from a page in an old family Bible. The 1840 PA
census shows a Joseph Camp with the correct assortment of male & female
members of his family in Luzerne Co. PA.
In 1849 Joseph sold his house & land to his brother, George Camp, & left
PA with wife, Hannah, & their 7 children for IL. In July, 1849, Joseph &
3 children died of cholera & were buried in Kane Co. IL. Hannah Camp &
her surviving children appeared in the 1850 IL census for Lee Co. By
1852, Hannah & her children, moved to Dane Co. WI where she married
DeWitt Clinton Devine, a widower with 5 children.
The surviving children of Joseph Camp & Hannah Smith were: David Dare
Camp b 3 Feb 1832 m Mary Piatt 1857; Thomas Perrington Camp b 28 Mar 1837
m Emma Jane Colladay 18 Apr 1865 d 24 Mar 1924; Mary Augusta Camp b 31
Oct 1839 m John C Devine 2 Mar 1856 d 30 Jun 1891; Alfred Bennett Camp b
9 Oct 1841 m Lucy Thompson abt 1868 d 25 Sep 1920.
David Dare Camp owned or operated a jewelry store in Stoughton, WI, in
the late 1800's & had 3 sons: Perry, Ervin/Irvin, & Key, and a daughter,
Myrtle, who may have been an artist; Myrtle married Tiodolf
Lidberg/Lidburg; they had no children. I have a copy of an old family
picture of David & his family which includes 3 grandchildren -- 2 boys &
a girl, names unknown. Apparently David & his family moved to IL
following the sale of the Stoughton jewelry store.
Thomas Perrington Camp served in a volunteer regiment from WI in the
Civil War & played in the band. He had 3 sons: George Lacey, William F.,
& Charles Clair, and a daughter, Stella, who married John Kullmer. GEORGE
LACEY CAMP married Mary Isabel Hardie & they had 4 children: Isabel,
George, Dorothy, & Lorraine; probably all born in the early 1900's,
possibly in WI. WILLIAM F. CAMP was married in Dane Co. WI about 1903 and
had a son, Thomas, born about 1907; I don't know if Thomas had siblings.
By 1928 the family apparently was living in IL.
Alfred Bennett Camp served in a volunteer regiment from WI in the Civil
War & then went to business college in the east. He had 6 children:
Bertha Augusta, Clara Josephine, Frederick Hugh, Maggie Ella, Myra
Elizabeth, & Joseph. FREDERICK HUGH CAMP was a dentist & may have been
living in CA in the early 1900's. MAGGIE ELLA CAMP trained as a nurse &
married a doctor, Riley Russell; they served in Korea following their
marriage & had 3 children born while there: Robert, Richard, & Bertha
Marion (called Betty) who married Keith Rich. MYRA ELIZABETH CAMP married
Frank Brown & had 2 daughters, Marjorie & Esther. JOSEPH CAMP was a
doctor. Alfred Camp & Lucy Thompson appear to have been married in
Missouri; their children may have been born in MO or KS & later the
family moved to the state of Oregon where Alfred was a school
superintendant for a time. Alfred's children appear to have moved to CA.
Mary Augusta Camp & John C Devine were my great-grandparents. I'm hoping
to find cousins who are descended from Mary's brothers. Also, if anyone
can suggest resources where I might find a record of the birth of Joseph
or any of his children, I would appreciate that as well.
Thank you.
