Here's the introduction and information on the first Camp included in
Jeannette H. Austin's book. I assume this would count as "proven."

CAMP/CAMPE

This book helps to supplement the work which the Manns did in 1967, as
well as other persons.
Much of the data of the first members of the famioy was taken from the
CAMP BULLETIN at
the Georgia State Archives....a family newsletter published during the
1930s.
The family is prolific in America...with some branches having as many as
12 to 25 children!
I have attempted to add my vast storehouse of information to that
previously gathered. Even so, I
feel that the CAMP genealogies are by no means complete.
For generations, this prolific family resided in Essex Co., England. The
parish registers at
Waltham Holy Cross reflect many Camp marriages, births and deaths.
Essentially, the Camps
were deeply religious people who became dedicated leaders in rural
communities, in Georgia
and Alabama, places where religion developed the backwoods. Many were
Baptist and Methodist
ministers whose memories are yet alive by virtue of their uplifting
guidance.
(1) Thomas CAMPE was christened 1630 in Chignal St. James, Essex Co.,
England, married
1653 in Waltham, Holy Cross, Essex Co., England, (2) Sarah WILLIAMSON.
Children:
3+ Thomas CAMPE c. 20 Nov 1665 d. 1711
4 Richard CAMPE c. 23 Mar 1671
5 Ann CAMPE c. 17 May 1666
6 Johanes CAMPE c. 9 Apr 1667
7 Sarah CAMPE c. 4 Oct 1668
