Hello List,
I am looking for any information concerning a J.E. Camp that was listed
on the Johnson County Texas tax roll for 1859, 1861, 1862. I did not
find him on the 1860 Tax-roll (it could have been because of the extreme
poor quality of the micro-film, however I did not find him on the 1860
Texas Census (index or line-by-line search) He may not have been in
Texas for the year 1860. He is listed as working on property that
belonged to James Billingsly located on (head waters) Chambers Creek. I
did not find him on any tax-roll after 1862. The films were so dark
that I couldn't read them so he may have been there, just couldn't read
them. I am trying to determine that he was the father of Martha Camp
(on the marriage certificate her name is listed as Kemp). Martha
married John Wood St Clair/Sinclair in 1865 in Johnson County Texas.
JWS was the widower of Elizabeth Billingsly StClair/Sinclair.
Nancy Camp was an older sister to Martha and married George Harris,
March 20,1878 in Johnson County Texas.
I believe that William Gabriel Camp was a brother (no proof) to Martha
and Nancy and he married Samantha Jane Phillips in Johnson County.
It's a long story but Martha is my great-grandmother and William Gabriel
is my great-great grandfather. Really hard to keep it straight when
there was so much inter-marriages between early families.
Any help will greatly be appreciated.
