In searching for my "Camp roots" I found myself in Coshocton, OH last fall.
Records there indicate that my line of Camps from lower PA/WV were Van Camp
and dropped the "Van" when they moved to Ohio. Peter Camp was in Coshocton
and his children located in central Illinois.

Subject: [CAMP-L] Are CAMPs and DECAMPS related? And other CAMP
questions....
Hi fellow searchers!
I hope some of you will be kind enough to answer a few questions about the
name CAMP.
Last week I found myself on the DECAMP mailing list without having done
anything to get myself there. How could that happen, I wonder?
So that caused me to wonder if there is any link between the DECAMP name
and CAMP. My great great grandfather Adam CAMP b. 1816 in Canada claimed
Irish origin on the Beverly, Wentworth County 1861 and 1871 Censuses.
Can anyone tell me if there is any spelling change in the CAMP families
when some CAMPS dropped the "De". Is that possible? Are there other
variations of CAMP that are family, such as VAN CAMP or CAMPE, or others
you may know about? If so, can you please tell me what they are?
Are CAMPs Irish originally, Scottish? or something else?
For clarity's sake I will send a following post about my CAMPs.
Thanks for your help,
Mary
