Wow, this is totally refreshing to see the Mayor supporting their community. I wish we
had that support.
Happy family hunting,

This is a quick update on the situation involving the Old
Cemetery(Yeazel) in
Clarksville, OH.
On August 4, the person who does general maintenance for the Village mowed
the
cemetery. The owners were unhappy and called the Sheriff's office and tried
to
have the person arrested for trespassing. A deputy did visit the person but
no
arrest was made.
On August 5 the owners attended the Village Council meeting and made several
request for copies of records such as, minute of past meetings, copies of
work
orders, copies of pay stubs, etc. They had several complaints and it appears
they want to cause as much trouble for the Village as possible. They said
that
the Sheriff's office advised them to post no trespassing signs, but they
have
not done so. They also said they did not want anyone from the Village
trespassing but they indicated they would allow people to continue visiting
the
graves. They also informed the Council that they were going to pursue
proving
abandonment of the cemetery. My understanding of that process is that the
owners
and others living in the area of the cemetery would petition the Probate
Court
that the Village has abandoned the cemetery for at least two years and that
the
Court declare the cemetery abandoned and it be removed. The Village would be
named defendant in the case and hopefully would fight the allegations and
would
prove to the court they have not abandoned the cemetery.
In my last update I ask that anyone interested in the issue to please write
to
the Mayor and Council and make their feelings known. First, thanks to those
who
have written. I am asking anyone who hasn't written to do so now. I have
talked
with the Mayor and a couple of the Council members and they believe the
letters
will help. Remember, most of the Council members are on our side and believe
that the cemetery should be protected so keep the letters friendly, but make
sure your feelings are known.
If you have not done so, please write now!
The next meeting of the Village Council is Monday August 19.
