Different accents - dialects - brogue. Most of the time it was the lady of the house who
gave the info - could be uneducated as many married young and it wasn't as important
for them to attend school.

Just to add a few words. I've found a Camp family in Northampton County, NC
that has been spelled Camp, Cemp, and Kemp - same people in different census
records. The modern descendants spell the name Camp. Was this just
variations caused by the census taker? Karna Webster
