Hi all,
I posted my family information quite a while ago but am still at a dead-end
on this line, so I thought I would try again to see if any other researchers
have clues for me to chase.
My most distant known Camp ancestor was my 2nd-great-grandfather, JOSEPH R.
CAMP. He was b. August 6, 1808 in New Jersey and d. May 26, 1856 in
Fortville, Hancock County, Indiana. On January 14, 1836 he married MARY ANN BROWN in
Clinton County, Ohio. She was b. Many 1815 in Pennsylvania and d. December 27,
1900 in Fortville, Hancock County, Indiana. Joseph R. and Mary Ann Camp had
6 children born in Ohio and were living in Clinton County, Ohio at the time of
the 1850 census. Shortly after that census but before their oldest daughter,
Nancy A., was married on September 23, 1854, to Samuel K. Applegate, the
family moved to Hancock County, Indiana.
At the time that my GG-grandfather was living in Clinton Co., Ohio there were
at least two other Camp families nearby who had apparently also migrated from
New Jersey to Ohio and on to Indiana/Illinois. One was the family of Daniel
& Abigail Mart Camp, and the other family was headed by Zephaniah & Prudence
Garrison Camp. In my research I have found many connections between the Camp,
Brown & Garrison families, but I have not been able to pinpoint the
family(ies) of origin of any of the main (Clinton Co., Ohio) Camp branches or where they
came from in New Jersey (except that Daniel & Abigail were married in Cape
May Co., NJ in 1807).
If anyone has information that might help me identify more Camp ancestors,
please let me know.
