I wanted to alert you to the fact that they are going to make the old Camp Homestead
into a 150 million dollar Golf Resort. This land in Rutherford, North Carolina has the
original 250 year old house that sits on land that King George II granted to the Camp
family. My sister in Rutherford saw this in the local newspaper and sent me the article.
It will be called White Oak Plantation and the old homestead is going to be restored and
used as the development headquarters. Plans call for 1,500 residences, a clubhouse, and a
200 unit hotel on 938 acre at the intersection of US 74 and Pea Ridge road. Arnold Palmer
has designed the golf course and Irish businessmen are funding a good bit of it. The
Irishmen want an Irish Pub on the grounds somewhere.
Maybe we should contact these folks to suggest they preserve the colonial aspects of
the House vs.. a total revamp. We might give them some history of the Camp family so that
they understand who he was and what existed there. Thomas Camp's 2nd wife Margaret
Carney was from Limerick, Ireland. So the Irish pub might work.
Talk to you later,
