I'm searching for descendants of the brothers of my great-grandmother,
Mary Augusta Camp, born 31 Oct 1839 Bradford Co. PA, married John Devine
2 Mar 1856 Oregon WI, died 30 Jun 1891 Oregon Twp. Dane Co. WI.
David Dare CAMP, born 3 Feb 1832 Bradford Co. PA, married 1857 Mary Piatt
most likely in southern WI or northern IL, died after 1917. David ran a
jewelry store in Stoughton, Dane Co. WI during the 1860s; at some point
he sold the business & moved with his family to IL. Children of David &
Mary (Piatt) Camp were Perry, Ervin, Key, & Myrtle; Myrtle married
Tiodolf Lidberg possibly in the Chicago area. I have no information of
the spouses or children of sons Perry, Ervin & Key, but I do have a
family photo that shows 2 grandsons & 1 granddaughter of David & Mary.
After moving to IL, David & his family spent some time during summers at
Lake Kegonsa, Dane Co. WI.
Thomas Perrington CAMP, born 28 Mar 1837 Bradford Co. PA, married 18
April 1865 Emma Jane Colliday/Colladay Dane Co. WI, died 24 Mar 1924
Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co. IA. Thomas was in the band of the 11th WI Infantry
during the Civil War. Thomas spent some time in Portage, Columbia Co. WI
operating a bicycle shop in the late 1870s & at least into the 1880s.
Children of Thomas & Emma (Colliday) Camp were George Lacey, William F,
Charles Clair, & Stella. William F. Camp was married in Dane Co. WI 1903;
he & his wife had a son Thomas born 1907. In 1928 Thomas was engaged to
be married; marriage probably took place in IL.
Alfred Bennett CAMP, born 9 Oct 1841 Bradford Co. PA, married 30 Sep 1868
Lucy Thompson Jackson MO, died 25 Sep 1920 Portland, Multnomah Co. OR.
Alfred joined the 8th WI Infantry during the Civil War & following
service attended a business school in Poughkeepsie, NY. Children of
Alfred & Lucy (Thompson) Camp were Bertha Augusta, Clara Josephine,
Frederick Hugh, Ella Margaret, Myra Elizabeth, Irma, & Joseph. It appears
that most of these children took teacher training in OR & then followed
later with medical training; Bertha & Ella became nurses, Frederick Hugh
became a dentist in CA, Joseph became a doctor in CA.
Parents of Alfred, Thomas, David & Mary were Joseph Camp (1806-1849) &
Hannah Perrington Smith Camp (1811-1895). Following the death of Joseph
in IL, Hannah married DeWitt Devine, a widower with 5 children in Dane
Co. WI.
My research leads me to believe that many of the children of Alfred,
Thomas, & David were commonly referred to by what we would now think of
as their middle names instead of their given names. If any of the above
sounds at all familiar, please contact me.
