Hi Carole & Doris,
I find your discourse about whether the name is 'Irving' or 'Irvan' very
interesting. My comments are based on my own family line from Virginia &
Maryland, not my husband's Camp line. My 1st-cousin-once-removed is named
'Irving'. He is usually called 'Irv'. I have just repeated his full
name
several times, as if telling my children about him or who he is. It seems
to me that 'Irving' is probably the correct spelling of the name, that no
one pronounces the the final 'g', and that everyone slurs the last sylable
when saying the name 'Irving'.
Instead of making up the name, 'Irvan', Doris' ancestor may have spelled the
name the way it was said!!!
Just a thought!!!
Connie

Thanks Carole, It could very well be Irvan instead of Irving who
knows.
I have some other relatives named Irving.
You said that the family thought that maybe grandma made up the name, In
my family, my mother said that Grandma Camp named my father, Lowell
Monroe Camp, after her side of the family. The name was suppose to be an
old family name. In all of my searching I have yet to find either a
Lowell nor Monroe anywhere. It may have been a story she made up get
get Grandpa to accept the name. I guess she put one over on Grandpa.
Thanks,
Doris
