Thanks for your response. There is quite a bit of confusion between the
names of Camp & Kemp. The names seamed to have been interchanged quite
often. In searching my Camp line I have found different spellings of Camp
name, but remembering back before I was married and carried the name Camp, I
can remember having to spell it a lot of times, so I guess it is to be
expected to have several different spellings.
In your posting you list Sextus as having married a Ann Harvey. I have found
Ann's name linked with Sextus on several web-sites, however I can't find
anyone who can verify the information. I have written to several persons
named on the web-sites but to this date I haven't had anyone to answer my
inquiries. My main reason in doubting this union is that Sextus was born
Feb. 16,1798 and married Jane Crawford in Nov. 14,1816 making him 18 years
at this marriage. It is possible that he was married before Jane but I
think that it is highly unlikely. Jane was the mother of his 5 children and
was his widow at his death of Yellow Fever in Campbellton, FL, Sept 25,
1832. If you know of any documentation on a marriage between Sextus & Ann, I
would love to have it.
After Sextus' death Jane married John Whitehurst in Dale Co., AL.
The following is what I have on Sextus:
Sextus Camp, b. 2-16-1798 in Warren Co., GA to Samuel Camp and Mary Banks.
11-14-1816 married Jane Crawford b. abt 1803. Sextus died 9-25-1832 in
Campbellton, FL. Jane Crawford Camp Whitehurst died 5-13-1883 in Henry Co.,
AL.
Children of Sextus Camp & Jane Crawford:
1.) James Elbert Camp b. 5-2-1819 in either GA or FL. James married Mary
Pauline (Polly) Rogers abt. 1839/1840 in Dale Co. AL. James & Polly both
died of influenza in 1862 in Johnson Co., TX. (These are my 2 & 3 X's great
grandparents. This a quite complicate but my dad's mother & father were
descended from two different children of James & Polly) James & Polly moved
to Texas sometime after 1850 with Rogers family.
2.) Mary Catherine Camp b. abt 1822 in Campbellton, Jackson Co., FL.
Married Green Lewis 12-18-1837. d. abt 1919 in Henry Co., AL.
3.) Martha Jane Camp b. 6-7-1825 in Campbellton, Jackson Co., FL.
4.) William Samuel Camp, It is believed that William died about the same
time as Sextus.
5.) Nancy Ann Tabitha Camp b. 9-08-1832 in Campbellton, Jackson Co., FL.
There is a book published on "The Lewis" family. That is quite interesting.
And of course I have quite a bit on James Elbert Camp.
Take care and have a Wonderful Christmas Season and a very prosperous 2003.
Doris

Subject: Re: [CAMP-L] My new Address
Thanks so much for writing. All I have is his name, birth date and
death
year and that he married Ann Harvey with no information on her or any of
their children. My brother was named Lacy Camp Greer who named one son
that
and that son carried the name one generation further. At one time
there
were
quite a few Camps in our area (I have been living in Mesa, AZ the
last few
years but still count St. Johns, AZ in northeast Ariz. as home). What is
confusing is the number of Kemps also in that area. I would like to get
more
information on Sextus and family.
Will be glad to exchange anything that I may have. If we are of the same
generation, that would make us around 4th cousin!
