DAVID
I saw your inquiry in the "Camp Bulletin" concerning our
ancestors. MY
great grandfather was Joseph Alexander Camp, who was a half-brother of
your great
grandfather, Rollins Pinckney Camp. I was told by my father a long time ago
that in late 1865, after Lucretia Taylor Camp died our
GreatGreatGrandfather,Joseph Camp(1800)married Dulcena
Conner. Dulcena was the mother of Rollins,Granger & Ednie. My
greatgrandfather was the Executor of his father's estate, which for the most
part was left to these little boys when Joseph(1800)
died at the age of 76 on january 17,1876. My Joseph Alexander was the
youngest son of Lucretia, but he had already served as a Captain in the
Confederate Infantry and was 25-26 years old by the time his father married
a second time , at age 66 and proceeded to raise another "family".
I'd love to correspond on matters of mutual interest. I have also
been to the Gravesite of Abner & Margaret Earl, near Shelby. I think Charles
Beam lives next door. It is just down the road from Pleasant Hill Baptist
Church ,where many Camp relatives were members. That reminds me ; Abner was
"kicked out " of that church one time because he missed so many church
meetings. His father was the Preacher, Rev Joseph Camp. The Reverand was an
organizer of many Baptist churches in that area in late 1700's and even
moved on to Kentucky\Indiana before he died . No one seems to know where the
Reverand is buried, but Abner aparently inherited his NC property, and
therefore is buried on it.
Good Luck in your search! JOHN CAMP
