Have just read 1880 census for Stoughton, Dane Co., WI & have found the
following family listed:
Camp, David age 48 watch maker b. PA (Feb 1832)
Mary age 41 (wife) b. NY (Jan 1839)
Perry age 21 (son) watch maker b. WI (abt 1859)
Erwin age 14 (son) b. WI (abt 1866)
Key age 7 (son) b. WI (abt 1873)
Myrtle age 4 (daughter) b. WI (abt 1876)
The head of this family is David Dare Camp, son of Joseph Camp & Hannah
Perrington Smith; he is also a brother of my great-grandmother, Mary
Augusta (Camp) Devine. I've been hoping for contact with any descendants
of his, but this census record is the first clue I've had as to just when
his children were born.
David owned & operated a jewelry store & watch repair business in
Stoughton for several years; then sold it & moved to IL, probably the
Chicago area. I've found David & Mary still living in Stoughton in 1900
but unable to find the sons there so they may have already been living in
IL. A family picture of the David Camp family shows spouses of David &
Mary's children as well as grandchildren. Unfortunately I have no clue to
names of their wives or children.
David & Mary's daughter, Myrtle, married Tiodolf Lidberg, in 1903 & they
had no children.
Does anyone recognize any of these names?
Judy
