JOSIAH JACKSON "JACK" CAMP was born September 16, 1848 in Georgia and
came to Texas with his parents. He was a farmer and cultivated crops where
the railroad shops, depot and First Methodist Church now stand in Elkhart,
Texas. He lived in a house that was demolished to build the church. In
1880, he married Leona Isabel Ferguson, daughter of Huglet and Louisa
Ferguson. They bought land four miles east of Elkhart and built a home. He
farmed the land until his early death in 1890. Leona kept and maintained
the farm, raising five daughters, until her death in 1911. They are both
buried in Starr Cemetery. The grandchildren of Jack Camp still own and
maintain the land he bought. Their children were:
1. Laura, m. Zee Broughton
2. Lura, m. Tommy Crawford
3. Delia, m. Sam Wolf
4. Dora, m. Tom Polk
5. Josie, m. Thomas Virgil Lewis
