JOSIAH "JOE" WASHINGTON CAMP was born August 6, 1808 in Jackson, (now
Walton) County, Georgia, the son of Sherwood and Lydia (Kennedy) Camp. He
was a schoolteacher and a farmer. In 1836 he married Louisa Cooper (born
October 15, 1818 in Georgia) and in 1850they were living in Paulding Co.,
Georgia.
In 1866 he sold most of his possessions and moved from Georgia to
Houston County, Texas, in an ox wagon. They lived there about four years,
then purchased and moved to the Keechi Farm (now Camp Hill) in Anderson
County. He was a prosperous farmer, a good man and liked by everyone who
knew him. The children of Joe and Louisa Camp are:

Louisa died June 20, 1879 and is buried in Palestine City Cemetery
beside her son James Monroe Camp.
On September 22, 1881, Joe Camp married Pernecia McDonald. He died
July 20, 1896 and is buried at Starr Cemetery.
