Hello Roger,
I may be able to help you with the father of James Camp b. 1783 in New Jersey, I am
related to Camp families that migrated from Ohio, then to Ilinois, then to Iowa. They
arrived in Iowa around 1850 to 1868. The reason I am responding is the New Jersey Camps.
My Camps came from New Jersey originally. Daniel Camp who married Abigail Mart is the
farthest I go back. Do you know if this Dan Camp was related to your Camps? If he is,
then you probably have the missing link I need. I am trying to establish the father of
this Dan Camp. My surname is German, and the Camps and German families that came to Iowa
together, in 1868 from Clinton County Ohio are my ancestors. I have no record of this
Daniel Camp's birth date, nor his wife's, both were born in New Jersey. Her
father was Andrew Mart of New Jersey. I refer to "this Daniel" as there were
many Daniel Camps following him, and likely more ahead of him, perhaps in England. This
Daniel had a son, Zephania Camp b. 1794 in N!
ew Jersey, that married Prudence Garrison, 24 March 1818 in Clinton Co. Ohio.
Zephania died after 1870 in Illinois. Daniel and Abigail also had other children: Naomi
Leona b. ca 1823 in Clinton Co Oh, she married 19 Dec, 1844, her cousin Arwine Camp b.
1824, he was the son of a Zephania Camp (I assume this Zephania was a brother to Daniel
Camp); Joseph Camp b. ca 1805 in NJ, I have no record of any marriage for him; Freeman
Camp b. 9 March, 1825 in NJ, he married 18 Sept 1849, Mary Garrison; Daniel Camp b. 11
May, 1816 in NJ. He married Dec 29, 1840, Rebecca Jane Garrison. There may have been more
children of Daniel Camp and Abigail Mart, but I do not know. It is my opinion that Daniel
Camp was probably b. ca 1765 to 1775, given the ages of his children. I am now wondering,
could he be the father of your James Camp b. 1783? or perhaps a brother?
I have nearly complete family records of all Camps decending from Daniel Camp and Abigail
Mart.
The Camps and Garrisons are so inter - married that I end up being double cousin to many
of them as my gr gr grandmother was a Rebecca Garrison b.1812 NJ, dau of Jeremiah Garrison
of New Jersey.
I am willing to exchange any information I may have to other Camp / Garrison / Batson /
Webber / German decendants. All of these families originated in NJ, and appear to have
traveled together, marrying each other, as they moved across the country westward.
Regards,
Wayne German
