Hello Group,
Munford, Alabama is located about halfway between
Talladega and Oxford. It is at the foot of Cheaha Mountain, the highest
point in Alabama. Munford is on state highway 21, which is in the process
of
becoming four lane from Oxford to Sylacauga. Munford is in Talladega
County.
The Cedars Plantation is located on the right as you start up
Cheaha
Mountain. It is a beautiful home, having been restored about 10 years
ago.
The town of Munford, has just voted to incorporate, and elected its
first
mayor two weeks ago. Right up the road, as you go up the mountain, is
Camp
Mac. Camp Mac is probably the best summer camp in the southeast.
The
camp
itself started out as a CCC camp in the 1930's. Camp Mac is just
down the
road from Hopeful, Alabama, where several more Camp relatives are buried.
There are two cemeteries at Hopeful, one called the Old Hopeful Cemetery,
which is off the road about 200 yards. At this cemetery you will find
John
Clark Camp, a son of Joseph Camp and Elizabeth Camp. At the New
Hopeful
Cemetery, which is visible from the road, you will find several more Camp
descendents. Most of the Camp descendents are buried in Munford, at the
Old
Munford Cemetery and at Bethlehem Cemetery. I hope this helps some
of
you.
