Trisha,
We are all probably a little bit ahead of our time in routine use of
this "technology," but our grandchildren will be able to answer lots of
questions we can't (at least right now!).
A good book to read on DNA testing is "The Seven Sisters of Eve" by Dr.
Bryan Sykes (available on Amazon, etc.). He is at Oxford University in
England, and his work raises all kinds of questions about human origins
as well as promise for genealogists of the future.
As I understand it, a "full DNA spectrum" analysis is quite expensive.
But if you read Dr. Sykes book concerning mitrochondrial DNA (which
passes virtually unchanged through the MATERNAL LINE, which is NOT the
way we normally trace our lineage), I think you'll find it interesting.
You might also go to
http://www.oxfordancestors.com/, a company
(apparently) sponsored by Dr. Sykes, you'll find it interesting also.
AND BY THE WAY, IF ANYONE ELSE HAS ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS, PLEASE PASS 'EM
ALONG....!!!
J. W. (Buck) Camp, Jr.
(descendant of Katrina, distant maternal relative of "the Ice Man found
in the Alps)

Subject: [CAMP-L] DNA TESTING
My HILL line has become quite active in DNA testing. Hasn't been a help
to me
because it is more helpful to direct line of males and not females. I
feel
confident that I have a clean line back to Thomas Camp/Mary Marshall but
thought it might help those unable to connect. I don't know what the
cost is
for testing but it sounds interesting to me.
