Hi Joseph,
I don't whether they knew each other, but the more I research this, the more
I realize that all of the Camps in the US came from one small line that
became very prolifirate. There is a good chance that they are closely
related.

grandfather,
Joseph Walter Camp, 31st Louisiana Infntry, wa also captured at
Vicksburg
and
later paroled back to his home in Haynesville, Lousisiana (where I
was
born some
75 years later!). Grandpa Joe was 30 years old when he enlisted in
1861
so he
was actually OLD compared to the usual infantry troops. Consequently,
he
was
relegated to a "logistics position" in the rear.
Don't know what the proximity of the 7th Texas was to the 31st Louisiana,
but
there is a chance they knew each other...
