Hi,
Here's what I've found out since I've last posted. I found my Camps living
in Genesee County in the 1850 and 1860 census.
In the 1850 census for Flint, Genesee Co, it lists:
Major Camp, age 40, wife Clarissa age 38, children: Abel age 18, Charles age
13, Emerson age 10, Henry age 8, Ruth age 7. All were born in New York.
In the 1860 census for Flint, Genesee, I found Major Camp, age 51, Clarissa
age 48 and Charles, age 23.
I found the marriage record I was looking for Abel Camp and Mary Jane
Phillips. Even though it did not list the parents, I believe this is the right
couple. They were married Dec 28, 1855 and he was 24 years old at the time
(born about 1832) and she was 16 years old at the time (born about 1840-41).
They were married in Flint by a justice of the peace. They were married in the
home of Daniel Bryant. Witnesses listed as Daniel Bryant and Hiram Ackerman.
I wondered if the parents did not approve of the marriage. The parents
were not mentioned at all.
I also found a Phillips family in the 1860 census for Flint.
John Phillips age 31 born NY, Thursay (it was hard to read, not sure if this
is correct) age 25 born NY, Mary J age 9 born NY, Melinda age 4 born MI and
Menora age 2 born MI.
So that's about it. Sorry this is so long. If anyone recognizes any of
these names, I'd love to know. Thanks.
Sue
