Thought these names looked familiar, so I checked my files....I have
the following information in my database, which I transcribed from
microfilm at the LDS library:
Major CAMP
b. 26 Jan 1771 in Tunbridge, VT
d. 2 Jun 1855 in Montpelier, VT
m. Phebe CURTIS in Orange County, VT
Major CAMP's father was:
Abel CAMP (my 6G Grandfather)
b. 21 Jan 1729 in Milford, CT
d. 20 Apr 1821 in Tunbridge, VT
m. Abigail GOULD in 1752 in Tunbridge, VT
Since this Abel CAMP never lived in Michigan, perhaps it is a different
branch of the family. I think there are quite a few Abel's and Major's
in the family during that time period.
Hope this helps,
Carol Wolf

You are in luck! In the 1800 Tunbridge, Orange Co. VT census, p. 598
(printed) there are the following entries, side-by-side:
Camp, Abel 12110-30110 (First group males, oldest male 26-45)
Camp, Major 30010-20110 " " "
"
"
These are the only entries I found for Major in the northern states.

Hi Sandy,
My grandparents were William Clarence Camp and Grace (Miller) Camp.
William
was the son of William and Emma. For children William Clarence and
Grace
had William Clarence, Brenda, Howard and Lee (my dad). Both William
and
Brenda
were born in Michigan. As far as I know from my dad, William
Clarence
(my
grandfather) was born in 1897 in Hudsonville. I don't have a
whole
lot
of
information to go by.
It would be wonderful if there was a connection with my Abel Camp and
your
grandfather. I ordered Abel's death certificate from the
Muskegon
County
Clerk's office and his parents are listed as Major and Carissa
Camp.
Do
you
recognize these names? I don't know where Abel was from in NY.
I
only
know that
he was born there from finding him in the census.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Sue,
Who were your grandparents. I am not at home with my info right
now, but
one of my grandfathers had a brother named Abel, born in New York,
Gawanda
County I believe. Does this sound familiar? My grandparents lived
in
Michigan,
as did I.
