My Camp line is from Lt John Camp. His son William is in my Camp line was he
mentioned in the will? The one problem is that Lt John was buried near
Laurens SC. There is a DAR marker at a Baptist Church nearby. I have photos
of the DAR monument with his name shown as Lt. Jno Camp. The DAR marker is
in the church cemetary but he is supposedly buried at the old gravesite with
no marker. They used river stones to mark those graves.
My Camp line
Lt John m to Mary Tarpley
William Camp he moved to Ga.
Littleberry Camp he moved to Texas
Maj Thomas Berry Camp m Laura Kolb settled in Harris Co Ga.
Ophelia Camp m (1893) into my Perry line to Ben T Perry
I can send you photos of the DAR monument and marker if you want. I think
the chuch name is Lebanon

Dear Camp Family,
My name is Jennifer O'Kelley. I have for the last 3 years been researching the 3,000 documents in the suitcase. The suitcase starts with the 1818 unrecorded will of John Camp, son of Thomas Camp Born in 1717. Sometimes John Camp is referred to as Lt. John Camp from the Battle of Kings Mountain. I note in his will that he refers to himself as John Camp Sr. - I think something is going on because the will is so bitter. Everyone of his children are mentioned in the 1818 Walton county, GA will. Walton Co. was founded in 1818 and this Dec. 1818 will is assumed to be the first in the new formed county.
The papers in the suitcase represent 5 generations of Camp's. Lt. John, James, Robert Berry Camp, Merit Camp and Emma Camp Robertson. The papers start in 1807 and end in 1880. The vast majoirty being from Gwinnett Co, GA and Walton County, GA.
Merit was Justice of the Peace of Gwinnett in 1842 and all of those papers are in the suitcase. He was also a patrolman and on the road committee. He was also a founding member of the "SilverGrays" - A group of citizens that banded together to help indigent soldiers families. The bylaws and call together papers as well as the families given aid are all in the suitcase.
Thought you might find this interesting. My Email is

Thank you, Elaine and Larry, and other Camp family members who may be able
to help. Here is what I know about my great grandfather.
George Washington Jones, dob 5 Mar 1833 in New York, died 1 Dec 1883 of
yellow fever in Baja California.
Mining engineer with degree probably from University of Wisconsin.
Married Martha Greig 15 Aug 1855 in New York City. She died in childbirth,
having delivered Martha Greig Jones in Feb 1859. The child also died.
Married Jane Elizabeth "Jennie" Merriman 16 Oct 1861 in Appleton,
Wisconsin. Jane bore him four children between 1867 and 1874, all of whom
survived to adulthood. Her fourth child was George Harvey Jones, my
grandfather.
Hopefully this will help someone determine just how George Washington Jones
fits into the Camp family. Many thanks.

To all Camp family members:
I stumbled on my great grandfather's name, George Washington Jones, in
the Camp family database. So far I've been unable to trace his connection
to the Camps. Then, much to my surprise, while I was trying "Camp" in my
own genealogy data I discovered that my wife is the 7th great granddaughter
of Hephzibah Camp. Talk about a small world! This makes me even
more curious about my great grandfather's connection. Can anyone please
help? If so, I have a wealth of great biographical information to share
about the Jones line. Many thanks.

Thank you ALL for your information. I have been considering this
Hannah Camp as a potential candidate for having a 2nd husband.......
Stephen Benton b. 1731 of N. Guilford CT (just south of Durham) Early
Guilford records note that he married a "widow Hannah Camp" on 17 Feb
1761. I have never known if her maiden name was Camp or if this might
have been her former married name. If she is this individual we refer
to I guess it was BOTH! The fact that only one child (Lois b. 1758)
is found could mean that her husband Ozias Camp had died. The Hannah
Camp wife of Stephen named their first child (a daughter) Hannah
Benton. The Hannah Camp married to Ozias Camp was the daughter of a
John and Hannah Hickock Camp. Stephen and Hannah Camp Benton also
named their first son, John...... and one could speculate that it was
after Hannah's father, John Camp. The Hannah Camp who married Ozias
Camp also had sisters Phebe and Elizabeth. Stephen and Hannah Camp
Benton also named daughters Phebe and Elizabeth. Ozias Camp was the
same age as Stephen Benton (both born in 1731). Could this be the
same Hannah Camp? Is there any information regarding the death of
Ozias Camp?
Susan
She married Ozias Camp on 6 Oct 1757 in Durham, Ct. I only know of one child, Lois Camp born 5 Feb 1758. Lois married a Wadsworth, but I don't have any other Information on that. Hope that helps. Chuck Camp

Hello Elaine and Camp researchers -
While doing gen.research in the cemetery in Altus, Jackson Co., OK I ran
across several grave stones with the CAMP surname.
Something to remember - Jackson County was not made a county until 1907, so
a lot before that will have to be found in the Magnam court house, library and
museum. Also there is a lot in the Altus Library, newspaper articles on
tape, etc.

Earl David Camp was born in Vinita, Ok., Feb. 19, 1918. His father Lorenzo Dow Camp died when he was 9 years old. He went to live with his older sister and husband Thelma and Dutch Polson.
At the age of 10 he quit school and went to work to help support his mother, Sarah Frances Scott Camp Ritenour. He worked in the cotton fields, wheat fields and any other job he could get. His average pay was 25 cents a week plus room and board. Most of the time he had no shoes.
He met his wife, Lura Edna Kincade and they were married on April 26, 1938. Their first child was Lura Frances born in Vinita, Ok., April 15, 1938. He worked in Vinita at a filling station, and later at the Vinita Sanitarium. He would do any odd jobs he could pick up. He was always a hard worker.
The times got tough during the depression and there was no work. His relatives left for Rocky Ford, Colo., because they heard there was work in the melon fields. They notified daddy and we packed everything we owned in to a Model A Ford and headed to Colorado. We slept where we could at night. We had a crate of Banty Chickens on the running board given to me by my uncle Bill Drake. So every morning we would have eggs for breakfast. It took us several weeks to arrive in Colorado. We were escorted through Denver by the police. We have laughed many times thinking we must have looked like the Beverly Hillbillies.
When we got to Rocky Ford, Colo., my daddy heard of mining jobs in the Craig area so that is how we got to Craig. We lived in an old one-room log house where the Craig city park is now. Daddy worked in the mines in Hayden and Mt. Harris. He also worked as an iceman, a truck driver, a foreman on the railroad docks for JJ Stanton Trucking, managed a pipe yard for some of the oilfield companies, he was on call every night to load out drilling mud for Milwhite Mud Co. He worked a janitor at an electric motor shop, was a weed sprayer for the county. He had so many jobs that it is hard to remember them all. He retired three times and went right back to work each time. He worked hard to provide for his family and we loved him very much. He was a good man and everyone loved him. He will be missed so much by his families.
He fought cancer for two years and for the last five years he has resided at Mesa View Retirement Center in Grand Junction. He loved it there and everyone knew and loved him there.
Earl had five children, Laura Frances Clare, Vernal; Jack David Camp, Craig, Colo.; Vernon Earl Camp, deceased; Roy and Linda Camp, Craig, Colo.; Howard and Terri Camp, Grand Junction, Colo. He had 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
