I have watched the correspondence in regards to the Camp's. My name is
Kiwanna Camp. I was wondering if anyone has found a African American link
in your families. I am having trouble finding several of my family members.
I am the daughter of B.C. Camp and Veronica Pierce. Our branch of the
Camp's originate in South Carolina. Right now they are located in the
Gaffeny and Charrolette area. If anyone has any information please let me
know. Thank you.

I have never heard her mention any Camps associated with that church. I
just wondered if this was the same Lebanon Baptist Church.

Kiwanna,
Is this your family?
Mose Camp, born 1865, South Carolina. On the 1920 census for
Rutherford County, North Carolina and 1930 census for Cherokee
County, South Carolina. He is also on the 1880 census of
Rutherford County, North Carolina, living with his grandfather,
Franklin Camp. He married Laura, born 1890 in South Carolina.
I only found eight children for them:
Johnny, born 1910
Bennie, born 1914
Pinkney, born Jan 1916
Raul, born May 1919
Hardin, born 1923
J. B., born 1924
Laura M., born Apr 1925
B. Junior, born Jan 1928
I was unable to find Mose Camp living with his parents, but in
1880, his siblings who are living with his grandparents are:
Pinkney, born 1868
Eller, born 1869
Julia, born 1871
Henry, born 1873
Sophia, born 1874
Mose Camp's grandparents were Franklin Camp, born 1804 in North
Carolina, and Cynthia, born 1820 in South Carolina. The family
in the 1870 census of Rutherford County, North Carolina looks
like this:
Camp, Frank, 60
Sintha, 40, f
Sopha, 35, f
Henry, 18, m
Samuel?, 12, m
Benj, 10, m
Grant, 8, m
Berry, 6, m
Ella, 2, f
Liza, 4, f
Joseph, 3, m
John, 14, m
Harry, 1, m
Everyone in the household was born in North Carolina.
It looks like more than one family. Possibly Sopha's children
are mixed in with Franklin and Cynthia's.
Hope this helps.

I also have a Raleigh in our family cemetery. Walter Raleigh Camp 1883/1948.
My grandmothers brother. Son of Edmond Kennedy Camp and Mary Jane. Does he
have any connections to your Raleigh? Mine is buried in Ferguson Cemetery in
Anderson Co. Texas near Palestine and Elkhart area.
It would help if we knew what B.C. stood for, when and where he was born and
do you have his parents names? Any information would be helpful and perhaps
we can provide you with some information also.

Jean, I will print this and get back to you if I find anything to help.
These CAMPs may not have come from GA or SC or NC, but may have come from VA
to KY to TN down to AL and on west. Some families in that time went that
way. I will see what I have and if I find anything to help I will let you
know.
Now, let me know which Richard and George you speak of - there were a lot of
those at different time frames.

thanks Judy,
I found George D. Camp in Jackson Co, AR. in the 1870 with a Charles Camp
age 11. This would be the right age for my Charles Brooks Camp. George D.
Camp in Jackson AR is also listed on the 1880 with out Charles.
A Charles Camp is listed in 2 locations on the 1880 Census report .
1. Van Buren Co. AR living with Laf Milsaps and this is true, he married
Sarah Milsaps, and
2. 5th Ward, Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas living with a Brother Richard
Camp.
I know nothing about this Richard Camp married to Rose and I can not connect
my Charles to George D. Camp or Richard.
I have some information on George D. Camp from the Jackson Co. web site. It
talks about the children he had with Martha, but not the children from his
first wife, Nancy Marie Ferguson.
Would appreciate any tpye information on Richard or George.

How I wish I had put an inside address so I would know who she is!
Apparently I was responding to some Camp information she had sent me. She
said Isaac Newton Nash married Indiana Camp (who was a baby on 1850 census).
She said Indiana's mother is Catherine Harmon and her father is Andrew Camp.
On Worldconnect I see Barbara has this family. They are on 1850 DeKalb Co.
Ga Census the household following William Kemp or Camp, wife Mary, children
Martha, Elizabeth, Ellsberry, Marion. Liz said in her letter that Andrew's
father was William Marion Camp who m. Polly Ann Duncan in SC. All of this
is what I have proved separately in my research except the middle name
Marion for William Camp and the wife's name Duncan. I have that he married
Mary Morgan on an affidavit he signed for a War of 1812 pension. Polly Ann
could be Mary, !

William Camp; but this bit isn't what I have found. This about who Andrew
married and who his daughter, Indiana, married is new to me as I have no

All of this is what I have proved separately in my research except the middle name Marion for William Camp and the wife's name Duncan. I have that he married Mary Morgan on an affidavit he signed for a War of 1812 pension. Polly Ann could be Mary, !
and I suppose she could have been married to a Morgan before she married William Camp; but this bit isn't what I have found. This about who Andrew married and who his daughter, Indiana, married is new to me as I have no memory of this from 23 years ago. Does anyone have more information on any of this family? Or best of all, is Liz reading this somewhere? Thanks, Larealia CampGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
Mary,
The church that John and Mary Tarpley Camp help charter was
Lebanon METHODIST Church near Princeton, SC. The
Ragsdales, Sullivans and Camps were all early members of
the church. The story is that it was one of the first Methodist
Church's in South Carolina and that Bishop Asbury
(appointed by John Wesley himself) preached there. It
is thought that a brother of Mary Tarpley was an early
circuit rider, but he was never "proven". In the early days
of the Methodist Church it was not uncommon for a minister
to travel among many churches. My own church was chartered
in 1838 (Alpharetta, GA) and the first circuit rider served NINE
churches over what is now about a five county area.

Carole, I'm very interested in this posting. I am descended from Elizabeth Camp d/o William Camp/Kemp and wife Mary Morgan. They are listed on 1850 DeKalb Co., GA census with children Martha, Elizabeth, Ellsbury, and Marion. This Marion would have been born in 1830's from census age. Elizabeth was born in 1820's. The next household was Andrew Camp and wife Catherine w/daughter Indiana. Do you have anything that could place the Camps in your posting with this family? Martha married Judge Joseph? Camp 1st then 2nd Andrew Hindman. Martha and Andrew Hindman were on 1870 Campbell Co., Ga census with Elizabeth Camp and son Charles in next household. This sounds like the same family, but I have never been able to make any connection from William born about 1792 SC to his father. Thanks, Larealia

Subject: [CAMP-L] line ofElizabeth CAMP Richards (GA)
Through a rather odd sequence of events I've received a memoir written by
a man only identified as A.L. Richards, a son of Walter Jackson Richards
and Clementine Anne Barron. His father was the son of John Perry Richards
and Nancy Camp. I am of Camp descent and my husband of
Richards. John Perry Richards was the brother of my husband's ancestor,
William B. Richards of Carroll/Douglas County Georgia. I am descended from
John and Mary Tarpley Camp through James, then "Big-headed" John, James
Seaborn, John Thomas, William Robert and finally my dad, James Irvan Camp.
This memoir was written in May, 1942.
It gives information regarding Company K, 30th Georgia Infantry, Civil War
of which William B. Richards was the Captain and a number of other members
related to the writer, A.L. Richards. Among them were John L. Camp, the 3rd
Sargeant, a brother of his grandmother, Elizabeth Camp and Henry Summerlin
the husband
of Elizabeth's sister, Frances Northen Camp. Also mentioned was Benjamin
L. Camp and Andrew J. Camp, brothers of Elizabeth.
He states that his paternal grandmother was Nancy Elizabeth Camp, born July
23rd, 1828.
She married John Perry Richards, Jun 1st, 1848. She was the daughter of
Wesley Camp
and Maria Lassetter. Wesley was born March 18th, 1804. He stated he didn't
know where Wesley was born, but it was probably Henry County, GA.
Wesley was the son of Andrew Camp who was born "according to information
I (A.L. Richards) have, in 1793, but if this information is correct, we
would have
the most remarkable case of a man whose son (Wesley Camp) was born when he
was
only eleven years old. This is obviously an error. Andrew Camp was the son
of
Benjamin Camp, who was born in 1759; Benjamin Camp was the son of Thomas
Camp, who was born February 8th, 1717, in Virginia. HE WAS THE SON OF
THOMAS CAMP, WHO WAS BORN IN IRELAND IN 1691, AND IMMIGRATED
TO VIRGINIA. HE MARRIED A MISS MARSHALL OF VIRGINIA."
Note: The information in quotations is exactly as Mr. Richards wrote it. I
put the
information regarding Thomas (the supposed immigrant of Southern Camp's) in
caps. He goes on to list the usual two wives (Starling and Carney) and
children of the
Thomas he called II. He refers to the "various documents which I have (none
of them ancient)"
and he admits there seems to be some confusion about Thomas Camp. The
manner
in which he lists the children of Thomas he calls II makes me think that at
least one
"source" was the old Camp bulletins which had been published at that time.
The following is a direct quote:
"Most of the Camps residing in Georgia, are said to be
descendants of Edward Camp, John Camp, Thomas Camp, the third, Nathan Camp,
Benjamin Camp, Alfred Camp and Aaron Camp. Thomas, the third, and Benjamin,
are
said to be buried in the old Bethlehem Cemetery in Walton County, Georgia."
"Benjamin Camp, my ancestor, married Elizabeth Dykes, from Wales. He
probably did this
in order to help me strenghten my Welch blood."
"Andrew Camp married Nancy Maddox, daughter of Jacob Maddox, of Henry
County,
Georgia, and my great-grandfather, Wesley Camp, was his only son. He had
some daughters,
but I do not know how many there were or what their names were."
"Wesley Camp married Maria Lassetter, on June 19, 1823. I believe Wesley
was one of
the early citizens of Carroll County, and they were probably married in that
county. They
had eleven children, namely, Francis Marion, Andrew Jackson, Nancy
Elizabeth,
(my grandmother), Mary Anne, Sarah, Almeda, Benjamin Lassetter, John
Lassetter, Joseph
Thomas, Frances Northern and Walter Colquitt."
"Francis Marion Camp, whom I know as Uncles Marion, was the oldest child of
Wesley
and Maria (Lassetter) Camp, and was born July 18th, 1824, and married Mary
Anne
Watkins on December 20, 1849. I remember Uncle Marion very well, although
he died
when I was quite a young boy. As I remember him he was rather a large man
and had
a moderately long gray beard. I think he died about 1890. Uncle Marion had
several
children, and I am not sure that I can remember them all, but I will do my
best. Joe
Brown Camp, was a doctor and practiced medicine in Whitesburg, Georgia, and
later,
in Carrollton, Georgia. He married a Miss Brown, who was related to my
mother's family, but
I do not know what the relations was. I never was acquainted with her, and
know nothing
about their children. Benjamin Franklin Camp married Alice Barron, who was
my mother's
sister; Albert Sidney Camp, married Annie Carden. He alsways lived on the
farm owned
by his father in Carroll County and I was well acquainted with him and his
wife. They had tow
or three small children when I left carroll County, and I have not kept
tract of them since;
Francis Marion Camp, Jr., another son of Uncle Marion, lived in Carroll
County until after
I left there. He is married, but I do not know his wife. He later moved to
Atlanta and
lives here now and I see him on the street occassionaly. Uncle Marion Camp
had several sons who
moved to Texas before I can remember; one of these was Allen Camp and
another was Reese
Camp; I do now know anything more about them. There may have been other
sons who
moved to Texas, but if so, I do not know about them. UNcle Marion had one
daughter,
Ada Camp, who also went to Texas. She was a young woman twenty or more
years old
when she left Georgia and I remember he well. She married after she moved to
Texas, but
I do not know who she married and have not kept track of her or her family.
Uncle Marion's
wife died before I can remember, and he married a second wife, Martha
Watkins, who
was the widow of his first wife's brother; I remember her well. He had no
children by his
second wife."
Note: There is about the same amount of information left as I have written
and will post
it later.
