I am searching for a link of the Camp family to that of the Madison
family. The time period would be around 1710-1720. I believe it was an unknown
daughter of John Madison and wife Isabella Minor Todd who married a member of
the Camp family. I beleive this because of two events. First is the will of
Roger Madison probated in Halifax County in about 1801 [It was signed by
Roger in 1789] Roger named his executors to be his nepher George Camp and his
son Ambrose Madison. When George Camp died sometime near 1802 there was court
action that identfied his daughter named Isabella suggesting the nephew
connection was through the Madison side of the family. [Roger's wife was
Elizaabeth Taliaferro] Thomas Camp was a neighbor of the early Madison
families as shown in the abstract below.

Has anyone worked on this branch of the family and can they share what they
have? Thanks, Margaret.

I believe these documents show two marriages for Samuel Camp the first to
Mary Rowe, the second to Lydia Butler Royce. Lydias first husband was
Phineas Royce and one of their sons was named Phineas Royce Camp and one of
their daughters was named Lydia, after her. There was also a second Mary,
given that name after the first Mary died. I believe the town clerk
documents show transcription errors in misreading the original documents.
I also note that Samuel Camp was called Lieutenant Samuel Camp, starting in
the church records in 1780, which would be after the American Revolution.
Does anyone have any information on this?

Hi everyone,
I think that my friend had wrong information. One of our fellow researchers pointed out that there was another Issac that married Medine Colmen. So here is the corrected information.
I am trying to help a friend find out more about her decedents. Her line goes as follows:
Job Camp B. 10-16-1747 M. 2-22-1773 to Anna Oviatt D. 1-17-1822
Issac Camp B. 1-21-1782 M. 2-10-1803 to Mary Lacey.
Issac Camp B. 1805 M. January 10, 1831 to Medina Colmen D. ?
Lewis Orlando Camp B. November 07, 1837 M. ? to Hannah Sybil
D. December 14, 1913
Lewis Orlando Camp Jr. B. 1886 M. February 10, 1913 to Emma Elsie Adeline
Bailey D. ?
Lillian Myrtle Camp B. January 28, 1918 M. November 28, 1938 to Ralph J.
McIntire D. Still Alive
Betty Lou McIntire B. September 18, 1948 M. November 11, 1972 Richard
George Harris D. Still Alive.
This is her Linage. It has been a hard line to connect to the Camp's from Camptown but we did do it in the end. My line Also descends from Albert Camp.
We can not find out anymore children for:
Issac Camp B. 1805 M. January 10, 1831 to Medina Colmen D. ?
If anyone can help us in anyway feel free to email me back.
Thank you,
Susan Camp
Hi Everyone,
I went to the Bradford County Courthouse yesterday and found the following marriages:
Richard Floyd Ammear married to Horteuse Beaturice Camp on 5-26-1902. Her parents were Reed Camp and Catherine ?.
Burton Cass married to Melissa Camp on 1-15-1892. Her parents were Thomas Camp and ?.
B. Frank Camp married to Nettie Sutton on 2-1892. His parents were T.S. Camp and Lovriva?.
Charles F. Camp married to Jennie B. Lewis on 7-14-1892. His parents were Nathan B. Camp and ?.
Eregene G. Pritnam married to Marion F. Camp on 8-18-1892. Her parents were John Camp and Tammy ?.
Theron E. Camp married to Marynu L. Goodwell on 6-28-1905. His parents were Daniel Camp and Mary ?.
P.F. Camp married to Ina Laura Gamble on 2-28-1906. His parents were A. W. Camp and Maleta ?.
These are the marriages that I have found so far. I have decided that when ever I go to the Courthouse I will copy all of the Camp marriage licenses because they will all connect to my linage edventaully.
If these are any of your decendents please email me and I can send you a copy of the marriage license for the cost of the copy and shipping which is $ .60. Also if you know anything about linage of these people please let me know because I am now branching out my family tree and I can not find connections on these individuals yet.
Thanks,

Note:
I missed Phineas Royce Camp and Samuel Camp. I will look again. The
records are in two places on the microfilm In Vol. 1 & 2 and in Vol. 3.
There are also children listed for Isaac Camp in the same time period as
Samuels children.
I also looked at Plymouth Town Records Microfilm # 1521827
There seem to be some spelling errors in the Town records in comparing the
two sources.
I am also not sure where Tryphena came from but if the wife of Samuel Camp
died in 1777, then she would be a 2nd wife. The Town records of Waterbury,
CT record the marriage of Samuel Camp and Mary Row, daughter of Daniell of
Farmington on December 7, 1769. So evidently she died in December, 1777.
It seems that Elam, Annah and a Mary baptized in April,1777 were the
children of Samuel and Mary Row(e). There was evidently another Mary born
in 1781 to Samuel and Tryphena.

The town records also have children for Benajah Camp (p. 50), brother of
Samuel, and Benajah Camps child Orrin who married Betsey Jerome July 11,
1807 (p. 59) and Samuel Camp Jr. who married Jenett Jerome in 1810 (p. 59).
I will try to lookg at the microfilm again and see if I can find Samuel and
Phineas in the church records.

Also Francis Monarcha Jane Camp> Josiah "Joe" Washington Camp> Sherwood

My family line Edmond Kennedy Camp was a brother to Lent Camp but I have
found noone who seems to know about him. They may have had a brother W.R. or
Walter Raliegh Camp too. They were all born in Ga. with Julia an Isabell (I
think as sisters) E. K. Camp moved to Elkhart, Anderson Co. TX sometime after
the 1880 census and married in 1881 and 1882. E.K. was my gr. gr. grandfather.
Edmond named two of his children after his brother and his two sisters.
I need to get in touch with the Andrew Martin Camp's because his wife was
my gr. gr. aunt on my Ashley's that I am researching.
My mother lived in Elkart until sometime after 1951.
I have some of the names of Lent's children and he had several besides
Webb. So could someone help me? I sure would like to get more of this done for
my Mom. Thanks Naeta Price
I would like to be put in contact with the Camp organization that is having a
reunion in Malad City in August, as I would like to attend. Please contact
me at my new address: thadiuswgreer(a)aol.com
Here is the e-mail I was referring to:
Hi Linda,
The reunion is still on and is being handled by Harold Camp
(camph107(a)aol.com). Dates are July 20, 21, and 22.
Reservations have to be in by July 13th.
I think anyone with a Camp relative is welcome.
As for us being related...I am certain that we all come from a single Camp
line someplace. As you know there were three Camps who came to the US from
England: Nicholas, Edward (our ancestor) and Thomas (your ancestor). I have
found some evidence that Nicholas and Edward were cousins. I have seen some
emails showing your Thomas related to Nicholas; however, since this is not
my line, I have not checked into it.
Our line is: Thomas Campe, Robert Campe, Edward Campe, Edward Camp, Lt.
Samuel Camp,...Job Camp, etc.
Give me a call when in town...maybe could meet. (Superior is quite small.)

Jim Ottmer,
We have exchanged e-mails before. I have friends who live in the same
city as you. I had not thought that we were from the same lineage, but from
some of the other messages I have seen on the list I think perhaps we are.
Anyway, we are going to be in Superior July 14th through 20th and could
extend our visit a few days if I were pretty sure that we could meet
"kinfolks". My Camp line is from my ggggrandmother Evaline Camp McRight,
Her father wes Starling Camp/James Camp and Mary Berry/John Camp and
MaryTarpley/Thomas Camp and Winifred Starling/Thomas Camp and Mary Ida
Marshall/Thomas Camp and Catherine Barron. If this is the same line is it
too late to get in on the reunion?
Linda Dixon
Terry:
Just read your e-mail and I guess I missed the one about THREE branches
coming over from England (and I thought there were only two!). If you still
have it, would you please send me a copy by reply e-mail?
Thanks!

What a coincedence! I am inputting Camp data from a book "The Kamp Papers"
by Gayle Kamp. I have your lineage (write me directly, please not on this
list). You descend from Johann Georg Kamp, born 12 Oct 1711, Asbach, Baden,
Germany and died 1804. Johann's wife is unknown at this time. I'll be happy
to share what I have.

I too am a Camp by birth and my Camp family is also unconnected, always
thought to be descended from Pennsylvania Dutch. I've not been able to get
past Jacob Camp and have not found his parents or any siblings as of yet. My
notes on our stumbling block are as follows:
Patty Camp-Stewart (Oregon Camp Family)
*****************************************************************************
Jacob Camp was born in Westmoreland County, PA. Death date of Feb 4, 1892 in
Northfield, Rice, MN, (which conflicts with cemetery records see below)
Jacob Camp was married to Maria Eager on June, 11, 1854 in Defiance, Ohio

"Jacob Camp is a native of Pennsylvania, born on the 11th of August 1829, and
when an infant removed with his parents to Holmes County, Ohio. In the
spring of 1855, he started with an oil-cloth covered wagon and one horse for
the West. On reaching Dubuque, Iowa, he took a steamer for Hastings, from
whence he went to Washington County and spent the winter. The following
spring he came to this township and was among the first settlers, locating in
section twenty-four and twenty-seven. He was married in August 1856 to Miss
Mary Egan and the union has been blessed with three children."
(I suspect that the earlier marriage date 1854 is the correct one.)
Jacob & Maria had 3 children listed in her obituary- Ordella May, who passed
away as a child, George Berlin Camp of Mapleton OR, and Odessa Lee Camp of
Union Lake, MN

Info on Maria Louisa Camp, (Jacob's wife)
Her grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War. He deserted the British and
changed his name. We have the following surnames: Sager, Eager, Egan, Eagan,
King, Edgar, Ager, Gear. She is also often referred to as Mary Camp.
From Maria's obituary in Northfield News: Maria L. Sager was born in New
York, Oct 13, 1833, and with her parents moved to Ohio in 1836, where she
lived until the time of her marriage to Jacob Camp. In 1855 they moved to
Minnesota, living at Stillwater until the following spring, when they moved
to Union Lake where she made her home until her death.
The couple moved here in a little covered wagon and Mrs.Camp lived in a
little log shanty and among the Indians the first years of her married life,
her husband being at work in Stillwater.
Jacob & Maria's daughter, Ordella May was the first white female child born
in Webster, Minnesota. She died as a child
Jacob & Maria's Son (George Berlin Camp) named one his daughter's also
Ordella May.
Odessa Lee, another son stayed behind in Minnesota and died there when he was
73. He had the following children: Clarence, Emma, Frances
A cousin states: Jacob Camp's parents were born in Holland and changed their
name from Kempe to Camp when they came to America.
My father, Daniel Claude Camp, states Jacob Camp family was Pennsylvania
Dutch and changed the spelling from Kaempf /Kempf to Camp. (I suspect this
is closest to correct spelling)
My mother remembers the spelling as: Kaumph
From 1875 Minnesota State Census, Webster township, Rice County
#64 Name Age BP FBP MBP
Camp, Jacob 44 PA GER GER
Eager 33 NY NY NY
Berlin 13 MN PA NY
Odessa 10 MN PA NY
(According to this census in would seem his parents were of German origin.)
We found a Berlin Township in Holmes County, Ohio. Where Jacob Camp lived as
a child. Perhaps that's where he got the name for his son George Berlin Camp
and I also suspect that this may be where his parents and other possible
family members could be?
George Berlin Camp, (my great grandfather) son of Jacob and Maria:
Born August 24, 1861 Died August 5, 1944 in Mapleton, Oregon. He is buried
in the Mapleton 100F Cemetery along with many other Camps. George Berlin
Camp had 8 children that all lived in the Mapleton and Lane County areas as
follows:
Ordella May Camp, Albert Walter Camp (my grandfather) , Berlin Eugene Camp,
George Jacob Camp, William Gordon Camp, Lillian Ermina Camp, Claude Clarence
Camp, Charles Gettus Camp
I recently visited the Siuslaw Pioneer Musuem, located in Florence, Oregon
and they told me that the George Berlin Camp homestead in Mapleton Oregon has
just received historical status and to be watching for upcoming news in the
paper. My Camp family is also somehow connected with the Knowles families
that also settled in the Siuslaw Valley and in Minnesota.
I would appreciate any help with my stumbling block, Jacob Camp.

I was also wondering where Superior is.
I too am an unconnected Camp descendant. Other family members have traced us
back to Samuel Camp who fought in the War of 1812. He was a Private Ist
Regiment Riflemen (Irwin's) Pennsylvania Militia. Lived in Berks County PA.
I have not been able to get past this roadblock. It would be nice to find
Samuel's siblings and parents but so far ...nothing. Some family researchers
have thought that we may be one of the Camps from Germany. Name may have
originally been Kamp or Kemp etc. At this time have not found a definite name
for Samuel's spouse, although it could have been Margaret or Rebecca.
Samuel and _____ had at least one child, Samuel A. Camp b. 1829 Berks Co. PA;
d. Apr 12, 1887 Macon Co. IL.
Samuel A. married Emily Jane Long b. Sep 22, 1831 Ohio, d. Mar 19 1909 Macon
Co. IL.
Samuel and Emily had 7 children: Francis Marion Camp (Sr.), Stephen A.
Douglas Camp, Clara L. Camp, Etna C. Camp, Margaret Camp, John A. Logan Camp,
Grace Camp. Of these, Francis Marion Camp (Sr.) is the only one known to have
had children.

I read the e-mail recently about three main branches that came over from
England. I am still trying to find out where & when my Camp ancestors came
into the United States. I have traced my family back to the birth of my
GG-grandfather, Joseph R. Camp (8/06/1808) somewhere in New Jersey.
I would like to make contact with someone who has researched the Camp name in
New Jersey to see if I can make any connections there.
Thanks!

Information about this reunion was posted on a Camp family message board and an
email including the link was sent to the list. I still had the email so found
the message and sent it along.
I won't be able to make the Estes Park reunion this year (health problems) but
sure hope to be there next year!

Hi, Does anyone know anything about a Camp Family Reunion for decendents of Job Camp and was to be located in Bradford County, PA. I received an email last year about it and now I missplaced it. It was to be held during July or August.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Susan Camp
