Mary...
In your email you said you're having trouble "downloading the page."
Don't download it...just go to the site and if you see something...just
print it out. If you want to save a portion...try blocking it and then
click 'file'...then 'save'.
Hope that helps.

Sure...be glad to ask Christenson about the service if he ever responds.
But I don't believe Thomas was accused of treason...only John.. tried
for being enlisted with British.
Anybody know?
Also...be sure and see what Dwight posted about Thomas and John's
military service which are documented in the National Archives.
According to the DAR...their land was confiscated but then later
given back. I don't know the source of the confiscation document.
Anybody know?
Happy hunting.

Dear Cousin Steven,
Our Thomas the first was born in 1591 Essex, England and married in 1611
at Cripplegate. His father was William Campe b. 1555 in St. Dunstan-in
the West, England. He married Mary Farmer 1584 of Essex England.
Source: <www.gendex.com:8080/>
I've had no luck locating Dunstan...but I believe it was near Essex.
Don't worry...all the Camps are related anyway...my husband stumbled
across info a few nights ago that said Camps of England actually had
come from Germany but their name originally was KEMP...which is a German
word for soldier. (??)

Dear Camp Cousins,
Today I received a response from the DAR...It states:
"The record you requested was accepted at one time, but because it has
now been found to contain an ERROR, it cannot be furnished."
This is in reference to Thomas' military service. They go on:
"Any future applicants on Thomas Camp, 1717-a 1798, must prove the
correct service. The land grant he received in 1782 was confiscated in
1784." I'm not sure I understand this. Are they saying the
confiscation of land impunes his military service? I don't know what to
tell my extended family here in Oklahoma?
Also, Dwight...thank you for the info about the National Archives.
I will at least be able to include that in the package I'm putting
together for the Oklahoma Camps.
At least I can tell the Camps here that our family came to America in
the 1600's and originally settled in North Carolina. Apparently, some
of Thomas' sons fought for America, some for the British (?)
What do you all think?

Hi Margaret. Thank you so much for responding, and thank you for the info. My
John H. Camp was born 25 Dec 1826 near Petersburg, VA, he died 1899 in Greene
County, MO; is buried in McGraw Cemetery near Springfield, MO. He married Susan
H. Anderson, who was b TN in 1833. His children were Martha, Charles A. William
P. (my direct ancestor), Mary, Lucy, Francis, Laura, Eliza, Lennie, and an
Infant. His direct descendants are still there around Springfield. I don't
know if we can ever determine that we are "cousins" or not. I sure would like
to find out who John H. Camp's father was! I guess if we all keep digging, will
eventually come up with some answers. I notice there is a lot of research on
the Camps, and I am sure my John and your John fits in there, but just can't get
the missing link. Hope we can keep in touch and would welcome any suggestions.

I found the dates of death in the Ancestral File, but haven't verified
them. However, the dates seem reasonable since two of their daughters
were unmarried and living with their married sister and her husband in
1850. (with Mary CAMP and John FRANCIS). The family did stay in Hartford
Co., CT. It was the son of Mary CAMP and John FRANCIS who left CT, and
settled in Augusta, Richmond Co., GA, Albert King FRANCIS.
We don't know where our two WILSON families were in the 1780's, but we
don't have the first name Henry used in the family. One WILSON family
was in VA in 1810, Wilson Co., TN in 1830, and Gibson/Obion Co., TN by
1850. The other WILSON family was reportedly in CT in 1810 (according to
the 1850 census), in Petersburg, VA in 1830, and in Norfolk (city), VA by
1850.

To all of you that are looking for STEVEN Camp. This Steven Camp that married
the Rachel is the only Steven at that time to be married to a Rachel. I have
looked and looked. Now this coming on today is something I have really been
looking for.
John Camp was the father of Steven Camp. But John dropped off the first part
of his name.
" Van" Then about in the 1830s in Lancaster Co. PA., and into Ohio, and
Wheeling, WV. they took it back. A lot of info. on the VanCamp's in that area
refers to Steven Camp and Rachel.

Susan,
Thanks for listing your lineage however you have an error on #6 Stephen Camp.
He was born 22 Sep 1769 in Norwalk, Fairfield, Connecticut, married 27 Sept
1792 in Norwalk, Fairfield, Ct to Rachel Benedict Hitchcock and died 9 May
1806 so he could not be the father of Mary Camp who was born in 1810 Hartford.
There was a Stephen Camp who married Heppy Webster on 24 Oct 1802 in Hartford,
Hartford County, Ct, & had a William Camp born 1805, and I do not know his
ancestors yet. Does anyone have any information on this Stephen?

John Camp, which states that John served under a Colonel Roebuck at the Battle
of Kings Mountain? Perhaps he could also shed some light on the controvery
about Thomas and John being accused of treason.
Let's hope he has some answers!
Kaye

Kathi,
As the new editor of the Camp Family Newsletter you surely know the
difficulty of trying to find which Starling Camp is the son of which Thomas
Camp. After spending most of last night going through my World Family Tree
discs I believe I have found my line at last. My only problem is that, with
an abundance of Starling Camps and Thomas Camps there are several that appear
to show my Starling, but do not have his spouse. The one that does show Mary
"Polly" Fish as his spouse also shows a generation further back in England
than the others do. If anyone can help me verify this information, it would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Dear Cousins
I found a Thomas Camp s/o 3. JOHN3 CAMPE (ROBERT2, THOMAS1) born
February 21, 1565/66 in Nazeing, County Essex, England, and
died June 11, 1630 in Nazeing, County Essex, England.
Who married MARY GOORE July 12, 1591 in Roydon, Essex Co., England.
Could this be your "Thomas I". It seems to fit. Worth looking at.
Steven McLaughlin
Irvine, CA
3. JOHN3 CAMPE (ROBERT2, THOMAS1) was born February 21, 1565/66 in
Nazeing,
County Essex, England, and died June 11, 1630 in Nazeing, County Essex,
England. He married MARY GOORE July 12, 1591 in Roydon, Essex Co.,
England.
Notes for JOHN CAMPE:
John Camp was frequently called John, the elder because he had a son
John who
was also well know around Nazeing Parish. John's profession was listed
as a
yeoman which means he is a farmer who owns his own land.
"The will of John Camp the elder of Nasing, Co. Essex, yeoman, dated 21
May
1630, proved 11 Jun 1630. Bequeaths to sons John, George, Nicholas,
Thomas;
to daughters Mary and Sarah; to grandchildren Elizabeth and John Camp;
to
John Eliot my grandchild when he reaches age 18 years; residue to wife,
Mary,
who is named executrix; desires his good friends Richard and William
Camp
to be overseers." Quoted from "Early Rehoboth" Volume II by Richard
LeBaron
Bowen, Page 89.
Children of JOHN CAMPE and MARY GOORE are:
5. i. NICHOLAS4 CAMP, b. January 10, 1605/06, Nazeing, County Essex,
England; d. 1706, Milford, New Haven Co., CT.
ii. JOHN CAMP.
iii. GEORGE CAMP.
iv. THOMAS CAMP.
Notes for THOMAS CAMP:
According to a book written by Max W. Camp, Thomas and brother
Nicholas
were listed on jury duty 1637 in Nazeing Parish, England. He further
states
that Thomas also came to the New World in 1635 and settled in
Glouchester
County, Virginia.
v. MARY CAMP.
vi. SARAH CAMP, b. December 02, 1599, Roydon, Essex Co., England; d.
October 04, 1603.
