Hello again, Marcia,
Nice to hear from you and we are very glad also to finally see the
"online" CAMIDGEs connecting via e-mail!
As to your grandfather's dad named George and born in England - on
Mike Camidge's family tree (which is well set up but I admit I have a little
difficulty sometimes "navigating" around in it, though I'm learning!) - he
shows a George CAMIDGE born in England around 1787 and whose parents were
Leonard CAMIDGE (1758 - aft. 1800) and Sarah Clint (1780 - aft. 1800). I
don't know if this is your grandad's father George or not as I am still
learning how to read the family tree.
However, when I followed the instructions for Mike's family tree and
typed in "F" on my keyboard after getting the tree displayed, I got a LIST of
CAMIDGEs and I counted SEVEN George CAMIDGEs. Now - actually locating their
"box" on the family tree might be a little tricky - but surely one of those
George's will turn out to be yours!! ;o) As I said, Mike has done a great
deal of research! He's a pretty smart cookie! I did see your George who
married Sadie on the tree and I saw your notes to Mike. It might be just a
little while before he joins our list since he recently had a computer virus
and is recovering from that. But when he joins the list - look out .... he
will probably be able to answer a lot of questions for some of you.
Anyway ... you CAMIDGEs keep talking ;o) (keep the list going) for
the next couple of days and getting to know each other. After tomorrow, I'm
afraid I'm going to be "out-of-pocket" for a couple of days. My sister just
had a baby and I have to help her for a few days. Cliff will be monitoring
the e-mail only for emergencies (he doesn't like to type! ;o) Ha-ha! I'm
his "secretary" and do most of the typing for him - though he can type some.
As to the "Viking" roots, <VBG>, there could be - I, for one, am
not
willing to rule that out yet. It wouldn't surprise me at all if there isn't
some Viking in there somewhere.
In our immediate CAMIDGE family - two out of the three brothers are
shorter with dark hair, while the older brother is taller and has lighter
hair. There is a cousin we recently met who favors the taller brother with
lighter hair - I could picture Viking in the CAMIDGE family - but I do NOT
know it to be a fact yet.
Happy ancestor-hunting to all of you! Keep the list going! Much
love to all of you cousins! Carolyn and Cliff
P.S. Perhaps at some point later in time, after we really have this
list going and have gotten to know one another better and found some of our
connections, perhaps we could try to arrange a "get-acquainted" CAMIDGE
reunion at some location which would be "central" and convenient for all who
might be interested. Will have to wait and see how things "shake out." I
think a reunion would be wonderful, though!

<< Dear Carolyn and Cliff,
Hi cousins!! So good to hear from other Camidges. I am so excited to
find so many Camidges in the USA. For a long time I thought we were the only
ones. It wasn't until I went online that I found others.
My Dad is Frank G. Camidge and he is an only child on his father's side.
He had a sister but she died at birth or very young. Her name was Mary. His
father is Joseph Camidge. His mother is Mary Etz. She was born in Bern,
Switzerland. And both my Dad and his Dad were born in Pennsylvania.
My grandfather's dad was George Camidge. He was born in England but
emigrated around 4 years old to the US. His wife was Sadie Steinmetz. I
haven't found his parents yet but I am looking. I will guess that his dad
was
George too, but I don't know. I need to go to Penn to the genealogical
library and search. Also to the National Archives and search the ship's
records. I will eventually do both.
Well, write back when you can!!
