I am having to revert back to a couple of leads that I have not completely
given up on. I am not sure if I have already posted this or not so please
forgive me if I have. I have a regional book from Wadena, Co. that lists
many of the area's early settlers. It lists many Camerons that all belonged
to the Daniel Cameron family (who I have not yet made a connection to John).
It also lists John Cameron of the Furness Colony. Now this is the confusing
part, The Furness Colony was an emigration of English that came from Furness
U.K to find utopia in the US. They went to Canada and then to Wadena Co.
They were a group of Temperance (Non Drinkers) and wanted to establish an
alcohol free community. They were not used to cold weather and harsh
conditions. Many died and moved away. The confusing part to me about my
John is that he was born in Canada in 1845. This group came to Wadena in
1875 (the same time as John J.). I wonder if he may have been a surrogate
member?
Does anyone on the list know anything about this group of people or have any
lists or records?
Thanks, Dean Cameron
