I would like to know if anyone has information on my grgrandfather, J.A.
Cameron, b:05/29/1850 in Schuyler County, IL, d:12/26/1881 in Miami County,
KS. I have received census records from Miami County, KS and cemetery
records with J.A. Cameron listed as James A. Cameron however, most documents
list him as J.A. Cameron.
J.A.is buried in Lot #2 of Rockville Cemetery (formerly Wm. Cameron Cemetery
1860's-?) in Sugar Creek Twn., Miami Co.,KS. Also buried in Lot #2 are:
Wm. Cameron b: 11/20/1815 in KY, d:03/27/1888 in KS., Mary Cameron
b:10/22/1813 in New Madrid Co., MO & d:02/01/1886 in KS., another James
Cameron died 10/10/1864 (age unreadable) and Eda Hightower b: abt. 1790 in
GA, died 1886 in KS (Eda Hightower was Mary Cameron's mother).
I know that J.A.Cameron married Nellie Scott in Miami Co., KS on 07/29/1875
(have copy of their marriage license) and, they are listed on census records
from Miami Co., KS. along with their children, Wm. Willis and Lillian
Cameron.
What I need to know is if anyone has information on the relationship of
William Cameron and James A. Cameron. I know that William was born in KY
(do not know what county) and that he lived in Schuyler Co., IL in 1850. The
1880 census of Sugar Creek Twn., Miami Co, KS states that William's father
was born in VA and his mother was born in KY. The 1850 census of Buena
Vista Twn., Schuyler Co., IL shows that William & Mary Cameron (spelled
Camearn on census), Eda Hightower, and, Mary's children from her 1st
marriage to Caswell Simons, lived in the same household. James A. Cameron
was not listed on that census which was enumerated by L. Lusk on the 10th
day of October, 1850 which is after James was born. So, I'm thinking that
either James A. was adopted by William and Mary Cameron or that he was
William's brother or nephew. Any information on the Cameron's of VA, KY,
IL, KS, TN would be appreciated. Thank you and sorry for the long post but
I've hit a brick wall on my search.
