The Frederick Cameron I've been looking for in Eau Claire, Wisconsin has
turned out to be Hugh W. Cameron of Moscow, Idaho and Spokane, Washington!
My grandfather's 1888 baptismal certificate was wrong about several things,
it seems. I am very grateful to the Idaho Historical Society for providing
me with more accurate information about my great-grandfather whose name is:
Hugh W. Cameron, born in 1865 in Wisconsin, and who lived (and died?) in
Spokane, Washington after 1920. It would seem possible that there are still
descendants of his parents Dougald and Catherine Cameron in Eau Claire, but
now I am turning my attention to Spokane. Now I know for sure that Dougald
was born in Scotland, and if I can trace more about his family names, I may
even find his birthplace. This is a breakthrough, after some years of
effort. It was looking like the Cameron name was just too common, and my
information too sparse, to ever, ever find our "roots" in Scotland.
Does anyone know if there is a Death Index or cemetery index for Spokane?
Does the East Washington Historical Society have a research service? Are
there any other sources I should consult? Hugh W. worked for the Union
Pacific, so I am looking for their records.
So, patience and persistance have paid off!
Ann Cameron
