State of Georgia
Banks County
In the name of God, Amen. I, Duncan Cameron, of said state and county, being advanced in
age and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory, knowing that I shall presently
depart this life, do make, constitute, ordain, and publish this, my last will and
Testament, revoking and annulling all wills heretofore made by me.
First. I desire that my executors, hereafter named, bury my body in a Christian manner
upon the land which I now live. My soul I trust to Almighty God, the Creator who gave
it.
Secondly. I desire that my just debts be honored in a timely manner.
Thirdly. I desire, that after my debts and funeral expenses are paid that my loving and
faithful wife Nancy Cameron have fully half of my estate, both real and personal, to be
disposed of at the time of her decease at her own discretion. The other half to be
divided equally amongst my beloved children, to be theirs and their heirs forever. Namely
William Cameron, Catharine Ingram, Theresy Cameron, Wiley Cameron, Valentine Cameron,
Alvin Cameron, Mary Baker, and Sarah Cameron.
Fourthly. I desire that slaves that I have owned-- namely Sam and Hanner, along with
their children, be sold to the highest bidder and the profits from said sales be allotted
to the care and upkeep of my dear and loving daughter Theresy Cameron and her child, she
being feeble in mind as well as body.
Fifthly. I give to my son, William Cameron, one sorrel horse colt and 20 dollars cash. I
give to my daughter, Catharine Ingram, one bed and bedroom furniture. I give to my son,
Wiley Cameron, one wagon with harnesses and the team of horses to pull it. I give to my
son, Valentine Cameron, my father’s sword that I brought from Scotland and 20 dollars
cash. I give to my son Alvin Cameron, a cow and four pigs and 10 dollars cash. I give to
my daughter, Mary Baker, my tailoring kits and 10 dollars cash. I give to my daughter,
Sarah Cameron, all of my books, bookcases, and 10 dollars cash.
Lastly. I appoint and nominate my loving and faithful wife Nancy Cameron and my devoted
son Valentine Cameron as the executors of this, my last will and Testament. In witness
thereof, I set my seal and signature this 29th of August, 1859.
Duncan Cameron (seal & LS)
