Well, so far I have learned that John J. Cameron was in Millie Lacs, MN. in
1870. His friend Amos Hoyt was there with him. (Amos was 28 years his
senior?) He is listed with P. Cameron age 21 (Permelia his wife was 21) and
L. Cameron age 18. (Lucinda Lyons was 18) Permelia and her sister Lucinda
LYONS were both born in Penn. (I have Lucinda Lyons in the 1860 census and
the 1880 census but not the 1870!) The census lists both P. Cameron and L.
Cameron as born in Penn. If these two P & L are siblings to John and not the
Lyons girls then it would make the migration of my Cameron's quite different
than I suspected. Another fly in the ointment is that there was also a
Daniel Cameron living in the household. He was 1 year older than John (His
Brother?) Daniel was born in Canada as was John. Daniel died that year of
Typhoid Fever at the age of 26. 14 years later in Aldrich, Wadena. MN. John
would farm next door to another Daniel Cameron, 4 years younger than himself.
I really need to find the Canadian connection!
I believe that John must have married Permelia Lyons in 1869 or 70 in the
Millie Lacs area. They must have left there soon after to go to Duluth where
Permelia gave birth to Addie on July 30th 1874. In 1876 they along with
Permelia's Brother, Mother and Father went to Wadena. My GGrandfather Amos
(Fred) Cameron was born there March 7th 1877. They lost the farm in 1888.
Later in the 1889-92 Duluth Directory, I find Amos Hoyt there again, Addie
his daughter, My G-gpa Fred, I believe Permelia and young daughter Elvie are
there and not listed. Another mystery however by the name of Ida Cameron
living in his house. I do not know who she is or how old or anything. He
also had someone named Archibald Jones living there as well (must have been a
fellow Teamster).
Thank you for letting me vent and rambling on and on.
All the BEST, Dean Cameron
