I have learned many new twists and names to my Minnesota Cameron's that I
have not shared yet with this list. I will share the story as I know it
today and hope that the new names might find a connection with someone.
John J. Cameron first shows up in the 1870 Millie Lacs census. John was born
in Canada on 5/1/1845. In this census he shows up with his longtime friend
Amos Hoyt, P. Cameron, L. Cameron and Daniel Cameron. Daniel shows up on the
1870 death index as dying from Typhoid. He lived in the same household and
was 1 year older than John. I am assuming that he was John's older brother.
P. Cameron I believe is his wife Permelia (Lyons) Cameron. The age is
correct and I know that they married around this date. L. Cameron I believe
to be an error. I believe this to be Permelia's sister Lucinda Lyons. I
believe this for two reasons, the census shows P. Cameron and L. Cameron as
born in Penn. John and Daniel were born in Canada. Permelia Lyons and her
sister Lucinda were both born in Penn. And all the birthdates match. So, I
think in a housefull of Cameron's, Lucinda Lyons became
L. Cameron.
(If anyone has access to Daniel Cameron's death records I would love to find
out what is on them)
I next find the family in Duluth. John and Permelia gave birth to Addie
Cameron on 7/30/1874 in Duluth. Permelia's brothers Harrison Lyons and
George Lyons are both there as well. John's friend Amos Hoyt is also there.
In 1876, John J. Cameron his wife Permelia (Millie), daughter Addie, Amos
Hoyt, Alexander Lyons, his wife Eliza (Lyman) Lyons and Harrison Lyons all
moved to Wadena Co. John and Millie had two more kids. Amos (Fred) Cameron
and John,Jr. or Frank C. Cameron (shows up as same child , two diff. names on
1880 and 1885 census) Everyone stated until 1888. REALLY BAD YEAR! John
lost the farm, Eliza Lyons died, Alexander left for parts unknown, Amos Hoyt
lost his farm. The only one left in Wadena was Harrison and his is a story
all on it's own for a later date.
The whole crew packed up and went to Duluth. In the 1889-92 directories,
John J. Cameron has living in his household: Daughter Adeline (Addie), son
Fred (Amos), Amos Hoyt, Ida Cameron whom I know nothing about! and a man by
the name of Archibald Jones whom I know nothing about as well. This is where
I lose almost everyone. I have continuing history on Harrison and his
brother Stephen Lyons, Addie Cameron became Addie Wallace and I have her
death cert from FL. in 1970 95 years old! Fred Cameron was my GGrandfather
and I have his history.
I have a few leads on some of these people. I really want to find out where
John came from and the lineage back to Scotland. I look forward to more
detective work to get there. If anyone recognizes any of these names please
let me know.
Thank you, Dean Cameron
