I am interested to learn the identity of a Mr Hepburn of Keith who is
mentioned in Chevalier de Johnstone's book A MEMOIR OF THE 'FORTY-FIVE.
"This advice to Lord George was highly approved of by Mr Hepburn of Keith
and Mr Cameron of Lochiel who were with him at the head of the first
column,"
There has been a Cameron family story handed down that a distant ancestor
James Hepburn, who was a great swordsman, cleared the stairway at Holyrood
Palace for the Prince to claim the Crown of Scotland.
Certainly I can trace the James Hepburn line back to 1770 but no further &
the only Hepburn that I can find from Keith is a James Hepburn born 1705 in
Rothes (10 miles away)
There must have been some Jacobite connection to keep "Mr Hepburn" in exile
with the Cameron and not returning to Hepburn land.
Any comments would be appreciated. Valerie Smith Sydney Australia
