Hi
This is my first posting.
My father, now into his 80's has been researching our family name and has
succedded in tracing back to 1678. The family all originated from Dallas, a
very small town in North East Scotland.
One branch of the family my father and me are interested in is a particular
decendant of his Great Grandfather an Alexander Cameron born 1783 and died in
Dallas (Scotland) 26th May 1857 he was officially married to a Janet Dunbar
(born 1797) and they had 4 children.
But in 1813 an Elspet Ross accussed Alexander of being the father of an
illegitamate child - the charge was not denied and the child was called
William Cameron. William married a Margaret Falconer and they had four
children - Alexander (accidentaly shot at 19 years old) - Jessie died at age
20 - Elsie (died in Pettrograd Russia age 56) and finaly William who emigrated
to America in 1883 and disappeared.
It is this William that we would like to trace and see if we have any American
family. Other than the year in which he emigrated we have no
information except that his trade was as a draper.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated , I have a lot more information on
the line in Scotland if anyone feels they may be connected
