Subject: [CAMERON] Glengarry Camerons
Delphine and List,
The following is my Cameron family in Glengarry. The time period may be a
little later then you suggested. My g g grandparents, Duncan Cameron and
Catherine Morrison were married Dec., 17, 1835 in St. Columba Presbyterian
Church, Lochiel Township. Glengarry County, Ontario. The church record
shows the family lived on Lot 13 of the 8th Concession, Kenyon Township.
The first seven of their ten children were born there and baptized at St
Columba and then the family moved across the river to Harrington,
Argenteuil
County, Quebec in 1848 or 49.
Duncan's brother, Angus and his family also lived on the same lot in
Kenyon.
Angus was first married to Christina McLeod and she must have died and he
then married Ann (Nancy) McLean at St. Columba in 1841. They also had
their
children baptized at St Columba. Angus sold the property in 1851 and
later
was found living with his son, Angus and wife Mary Chisholm. A map
published in 1879 shows an Allan Cameron on the south 1/2 of lot 33, of
the
6th Concession, Kenyon. The 1881 census has Allan and wife, Mary living
with
Angus and Mary Cameron and Angus' parents Angus and Ann (Nancy). The !851
census shows Allan and Mary lived on Lot 33 of the 6th Concession, Kenyon.
The 1901 and 1911 census both show Allan's son Donald, his family and
mother, Mary living on Lot 33. We believe Duncan, Angus and Allan are
brothers, but can not find documentation of their parents names. Their
fathers name could be Donald, as both Duncan and Angus named their first
born son Donald and Allan also had a son named Donald. The parents names
are not even listed on the marriage records at St Columba Church. I have
found a male Cameron descendant of Angus and we are a DNA match. The DNA
match, along with other documentation previously found, helped to
substantiate the suspected relationship between Duncan and Angus. To date,
we have not found any descendant of Allan's. Allan's headstone can be
found
in the Maxville Community Cemetery and the younger Angus' headstone is in
the Dunvegan Cemetery.
