Hi Folks,
I'm personally disturbed about the fact, as the Latter Day
Saints admit, on one of their taglines, .......(CUT)
"Admit" is an unfortunate word to use as it almost implies a sense of
guilt.
The IGI was, and is, a bookkeeping facility that was created to <serve
the needs of Mormons>. Apparently they took serious note of the urging
of St Paul, that we should know our ancestry. They owe no apology to you
or me, for structuring the IGI to suit their religious needs!!!!
LDS very kindly [hoorah!!] made the IGI available to the general public.
Like ALL indexes, it is subject to error, and like ALL indexes we should
consult the source that is listed, with every IGI entry, if we want to
test the truth of the info. Otherwise we may adopt the wrong ancestry, a
silly prospect!

they began accepting family records from individuals, giving
records to the LDS, which are not confirmed, but aded to the
Ancestral Files of the LDS.
These are called Patron Submissions, and include pre- 1970 submissions
too. The Submissions are easily recognisable in the IGI. If you read the
instructions, you'll not be fooled!
Thanks Jackie, for illuminating this important subject. Cheers........
