I'm trying to find out where yet another Thomas Hinton fits into the
family. This one is in Clarke County GA in 1820. He and wife Rachel
Hightower have several children, but I know of only two, Pherobey
(Pheribee, Ferebee, etc) and Penina. Robert Cameron married Penina in
1827, then married Pherobey in 1828 in Clarke County. Robert &
Pherobey had 13 children and lived in Chattooga County GA for many
years.
Given the unusual names of the two daughters, it appears that Thomas
belongs somewhere down the line of John Jack and Pherobey Smith
Hinton, married in 1765, built & lived at Clay Hill-on-the Neuse in
now Raleigh NC. John Jack's much younger brother Malachi, evidently
lived with him & Pherobey after their father John Hinton remarried.
Malachi named one of his & Sarah Wimberly's daughters Pherobey. Their
son Jacob married Sarah Stallings and named one of their daughters
Penina.
I've gleaned most of this information from the federal censuses,
message boards, lists, genealogical essays, and a few family trees,
plus the Heritage of Chattooga County GA 1838-2006, published by the
Northwest Georgia genealogical society.
Despite many references of Thomas Hintons in other lines in MD, OH,
ME, VA, KY, IN, IO, TN this one in North Carolina lacks any mention
of a Thomas in any of the information I've found. Is any one familiar
with this family?
Sandra Stuart
