Message Board Post:
I am currently tracing my wifes family tree for her and her mother
and I am looking for a little advice or at least a pointer in the
right direction.
My mother in laws aunts were called Agnes Cameron and Margaret
Elizabeth Cameron.
Agnes was born in 1884 and Margaret in 1882 in Scotland.
Here is the puzzle: Margaret was a nurse and moved to Africa to do
this job. In 1956 she traveled back from Africa (Durban to
Southampton) on a Union Castle Mail Steamship and her onward address
in the passenger records was to her sister (Agnes) in Aberdeen. Agnes
was also a nurse. ( we know that in 1921 Agnes was promoted from
Leeds General Infirmary to matron at Clayton Hospital Wakefield)
Now here is why I am looking for your assistance. I have discovered
that Margaret Cameron born in 1882 (same year as mine) also traveled
on a Union Castle Ship from Africa arriving at Southampton on
21/12/1925 and again on 23/6/1938 and on both trips her onward UK
address was given as Langham Lea, Stanford Road, Bowden, Cheshire
which I believe to be a nursing home.
I am trying to establish if this was indeed my Margaret ( as there is
a family belief that she only traveled back to the UK once, the 1956
trip) and indeed if the address given was once again the address her
sister Agnes was in at the time ( possibly as an employee). If this
is not my Margaret then it is a huge coincidence.
Any information on this home even unrelated to the nursing home would
be greatly appreciated
