When you are out for your Sunday run this weekend on Sunday, March 18, 2007 you might take
a moment to remember Fred, one of Canada's famous runners in the early 1900's who
later in life moved to Chicago and then to Vancouver where he is buried alone at the
Forest Lawn Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Fred used to work at Robb
Engineering in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He was from Advocate, Nova Scotia. As training for
his runs, he practiced on the hills between Parrsboro, Nova Scotia and Advocate, Nova
Scotia which are very, very steep. News articles are on microfiche at the Library of Mt.
Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. This is where the Amherst Daily News
archival files are kept. There is a mural at the corner of Havelock St. and Victoria St.
in Amherst, Nova Scotia which has a depiction of Fred in his running outfit wearing Number
13.
