Dear All,
I understand that Charles Cameron of Lochiel, XXI Chief, and his wife Martha
Marshall had a son John who was born in about 1771. An earlier son Donald
(born about 1769) eventually succeeded as XXII Chief. In 1772, that same
Charles held the lease on lands at Caonich on the northern shore of
Locharkaig. Those same lands were held by a man named John Cameron during
the years 1820s-1840s.
Can anyone provide more information that may relate to any of the following
possibilities?
(a) Concerning the John Cameron who held the Caonich lands in the
1820s-1840s, was he the son of Charles Cameron XXI Chief of Lochiel?
(b) What happened to that John Cameron, son of Charles?
(c) Did that John Cameron (b. about 1771, son of Charles) marry a Catherine
Cameron (maiden surname Cameron) and have at least two children: John (b.
early 1790s), Mary (b. about 1794).
Any useful leads would be extremely welcome.
Regards,
Lex.
