As best I can tell, Nathaniel is also my GG-Great Grandfather. I just came from the
cemetery yesterday. Have you seen his headstone? I'm just so impressed with it.
It reads:
NATHANIEL CAMRON.
Born in Ireland on the 15th day of Oct. 1777. He came to American when 15 yrs. of age
& died in Green Co. Ala on the 9th day of July 1861. Aged 83 yrs. 8 mos. & 24
dys.
That was just the coolest thing I ever saw. According to my figuring ... He was married
to Mezina who died on March 7, 1877. I say this because her marker is close to his and it
says "Mazina -- Wife of Nathaniel Cameron Died March 7, 1877"
I stumbled across a census from Greene County taken in 1870 where my Grandmother (Anna
Cameron Parks) was 2 years old. The census lists: Zina (63 yrs old). Under that is (if
I'm reading it correctly) Newton Age 33 (his name is really hard to read, but the
marker at the cemetery is W. N. born Nov 5, 1838); Ellen (24); Jesse (7); R. Russell (4);
and Anna (2).
My mother tell's me that she was always told that Nathaniel came to America as a
stowaway. Does that make us illegals?
