Hi Dean,
Is that John and Anna? if si there was a John and Anna lived on Fords Creek
(very near Fort Maginnis) about 1912 homestead no: sec 21,22,28,29-16-22 John
(1863) and Anna had 12 children Earl-1897, John A --1899, Bertha--1901,
Paris--1903, William F.--1905, JoAnnie--1907, Fred--1909, and Francis--1911
Herbert and Clara (Sec-1-16-23) Herbert --1892-son of John L and Rose Cameron
was born at Howie, Montana. He later lived near Kendall. Herb and Clara
DeVault--1895-married1914. They had five children--Wesley-1915, Linda--1918,
Esther--1921, Evelyn--1924, and Della--1928. Herb and Clara seperated in 1937
and Clara moved to Oregon.
There was a Tom and Lillian in Grass Range, Tom managed the Grass Range
Mercantile for Jim Charters, and in the loan, livestock and real Estate
business. They had three children Tom, Ruth and Virginia. Tom and Ruth started
High School in Grass Range. The family left in 1924. Tom died in Bozeman in
1934.
The only mention I can find of the 7th Calvary,(talking about Fort Maginnis)
"such forts built in Montana prior to the defeat of General George Armstrong
Custer and his entire command of the 7th Calvary in 1876 were quite primitive."
This is from the History of Southeastern Fergus County called From The Foothills
to the Plains compiled by Grass Range History Committee.
You might want to check with the Little Big Horn National BattleField about the
activities of the 7th Calvary prior to the Battle between Custer and the Tribal
Nations.
Sorry I was not much help, I hope these names help.

Was the 7th Calvary stationed at Ft. Maginnes in the early
1900's? A clue
that might help me with my John J. Cameron being from Fergus Co. is John's
son Fred Cameron had a Horse Ranch in Robinson N.D.. His primary customer
was the 7th Calvary. Maybe Dad helped his Son secure a contract? Thank you
for your help and maybe a history lesson. Dean Cameron
