Hi Sunny,
Thanks for the info. Actually, I realized when I read over my post that the
woman whom looked Native American to me in my family was actually Lorenna
Cameron's daughter Katie Walker. I had read somewhere there were Walker native
Americans from NC which is where they are from. But I do not know about my
Cameron's heritage yet.
Hi Chrisy..just thought I'd add my 2 cents here in case anybody
has a
question mark as to why a Cameron would be NAmerican. Just understand that
when this
country got up and going..the English, and others saw an opportunity to
start
over..have land, start businesses and succeed in life, so they hopped a boat
and crossed the pond. A lot of them, all nationalities, took Native American
women for wives, and they had tons of kids. It worked the other way too,
whereas
some women lost their mates and then took NAmerican husbands and joined up
with the tribes that were here. Old Joseph, the chieftan of the Cherokees
way
back when was Joseph Elliott..an English father and a full blood NAmerican
mom.
A lot of problems insued later on when the NAmerican rolls came into play
because all these people went on, or tried to go on the Indian Rolls, i.e.
Dawes,
Guillion, etc. Some of the families were actually split where some of the
kids
were on the rolls and some in the same family might not be, depending on how
fair their skin was or their overall appearance. It was a mess to be sure,
but
that's how you see many people on the rolls who have European names. Have a
great day and keep plodding through the fog. :) Sunny
