I am new to the list and have not posted my line yet. This seems to be a
good time.
My earliest known Cameron ancestor:
l. Duncan Gaines Cameron b. 1785 - 1790 Scotland.
(Several of his children listed Duncan't birthplace as Scotland on census
records in Ga.)
Duncan married Nancy Winters in 1822 in orange Co., NC.
(bible records and his will have shown his wife's name as Nancy)
Duncan drew land in the 1827 Cherokee land Lottery.
Children of this marriage:
(1) William A. Cameron b. 1823 m. 1844 Mary Pair in Franklin Co., Ga.
(2) Catherine Cameron b. 1825-30 m. Littleton Ingram 1845 Franklin Co., Ga.
(3) Theresy Cameron b. 1829
(4) Wiley Cameron b. 1834 d. 19ll Walker Co. Ga. m. Sarah
(5) Valentine Cameron b. 1837-1840 d. 1924 Walker co., Ga. m. Nancy Wall
(6) Alvin D. Cameron b. 1838 KIA 1863 m. 1856 Rebecca E. Selman
(7) Mary Cameron b. 1839 m. a Baker
(8) Sarah Elizabeth Cameron b. 1844 d. 1911 Banks co., Ga. m. 1865 Jesse
Putman Ayers (these are my great grandparents)
Duncan is in the 1840 and 1850 census of Franklin co., Ga. A copy of his
will was just posted to your website which was signed August 1859 in Banks
county, Ga. Banks County was formed from Franklin County in 1858.
Apparently he died before the 1860 census as he has not been found in these
records. Neither have we been able to locate his widow since that time.
Several of his sons died in Walker county, Ga.; however, Sarah Ayers
remained in Banks county.
We are looking for a connection for Duncan Gaines Cameron to the Camerons in
NC in the early 1820's. The book: "Carolina Scots" by Kelly lists Cameron
Families and there is a Duncan Cameron listed in the John Merchant Cameron
Family. This family emigrated from Scotland to Moore county, NC about 1775.
This would have been too early for my Duncan Cameron to have been in
Scotland. Unless there is a mistake in the the date of emigration.
Any information anyone has on my line or the Duncan Cameron in the John
Merchant Cameron family will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Barbara Ayers Browning

Hi, is there anyone on this list researching Camerons from NC? I have
been
fairly quiet on this list.
