I'm not much help. All I know is that we are somehow related to "Cariboo "
Cameron. If you go to the B.C. website you will find a reallly interesting story of his
life. I bought a book called "The Promise" by Bill Gallaher which is the story
of his life. A cousin who informed us that we were related to Cariboo Cameron and at the
time I was not interested in geneology. Now that I am into geneology I want to see if I
can make the connection. A cousin also recently sent me a bunch of family photos and low
an behold if there isn't a studio photo of him in the photos I received. She
didn't even know who it was. Anyways, the same photo is on the B.C. site.
I have a copy of my grandmother's obituary and in it it states that one of her
sisters was married to a J.J Cameron of Cornwallis Ontario and the other was married to a
Groves.
Now Cariboo Cameron's first wife was a Groves. I am fairly certain there is a
connection but just can't make it.
Here is what I know about Cariboo Cameron. Both he and Sophia were raised by Loyalist
families in Glengarry County in Canada West....just east of Cornwallis.
John Angus Cameron (nicknamed Cariboo Cameron) was born in 1820. He married Sophia
the daughter of Nathan Groves of Stormont in the county of Cornwall. They were married in
1859 when Sophia was 27 years old and Cameron was 39. They had 2 children. The first was
Mary Isabella Alice who was born in January of 186l and died in 1862. Their second child
was stillborn.
John married a second time to Christianna Emma Woods daughter of Colonel John Woods.
Hope this is of some help to you.
