Hello Dean,
I am amazed how everyone on this sight has so much family info. I started
doing the family genealogy a little too late to ask information from
relatives. Our family was one of those that didn't really talk much about
history. My gggrandfather died in 1901 and gggrandmother died in 1923.
They migrated to Michigan from Canada. All but 2 of their children moved
out West, which I only know they went to Portland and Spokane. My father
had some old letters and handwritten notes that I have used. I did write
to the Church in Portage du Fort and did find the birth records of their
children and their marriage record. Here is all that I know of the family
and I am not sure how accurate this is:
Allan Cameron was born May 5, 1827 (could be 1837) in Glengarry. His
parents were Alexander Cameron and Flora McDonell (not sure of exact
spelling). Allan married Marie Charlotte Bentley October 11, 1860 in
Portage du Fort. Charlotte was the daughter of Lewis Bentley and Marie Carey.
Allan and Charlotte had the following children
Alexander, Hugh, Marienne, Flora, William, Suzanne, Charlotte, John, John
O'Kane
I think one of the daughters married and lived in Spokane. I have a
newspaper clipping dated March 19, 1962 Spokane and the headline is "Rubble
litters North Monroe Street following explosion". Then a handwritten note
on it that says" this was the 2nd hand store (brick) 200 feet from our
house. I also have a piece paper that says G.W. Lawrence Lincoln Street
Spokane. I have a suspicous feeling that Flora Cameron was married to G.W.
Lawrence.
Well, my main focus is trying to work backwards from Allan's parents. To
be honest, I'm not real sure where Glengarry is. It took me several years
to find the birth and marriage records in Canada and they are from 1860
forward.
Sorry I don't have more information on our Camerons from Glengarry. I will
keep looking.
Have a great day,
Colette C. Krob
