In 1886, Duncan Cameron married Emeline Gay in St. Clarie's County, Ogels
station. In 1888 she gave birth to my grandfather, George John Cameron, and
then died in 1890 in Coalgate, Oklahoma.
I have record of the following graves in the Lehigh, Oklahoma Cemetery:
John Cameron b 1823 (Scotland) died Oct. 1, 1892, he was a miner by trade and
died at home after a brief illness. His headstone reads: Our Father at Rest.
Beside him at the cemetery is his wife, Margaret (Kerr) Cameron who was born
in 1825 and died July 5, 1895. Her headstone reads "Our Mother at Rest".
The above Camerons's had a son, Duncan Cameron who married Emeline Gay as
above. Duncan was born July 6, 1851 and Died Sept. 28, 1897. OF this union
was one child George John Cameron born 1888 in Streator, Illinois. Emeline
died in the birth of her second child, in Oklahoma.
Duncan Cameron had a brother, WPK Cameron who married Sara E. Brumfield. Sara
had a son from a prior marriage, his name was John S. Cameron (the S. is
thought to be his original last name initial, that of Straightenberg). WPK
Cameron and Sara Cameron then took my grandfather at the age of 2, and raised
him in Lehigh, Oklahoma.
Duncan Cameron apparently went back to England, and married Mary ___?. They
came back to the USA in 1899 (he had originally migrated to the USA from
Perthshire, Luncharty Scotland in 1881). It appears that when his first wife
Emeline Gay died, he went back to England and came back with a wife, Mary,
and a son, James Cameron b 1898 in England. This couple Mary and Duncan
Cameron also have another child believed to be in the USA..that of Sarah
(Mrs. Walter McLaughlan of Coalgate OK) as of 1920.
Any connections out there? Please step right up. Thanks, Sunny
